........Before the foul? I get about 10 runs out of a set until the car starts cutting out.

Replace mine every time or every other time I goto the track, depends on my mood. I would guess that's every 5-10 passes and ~100 street miles. Sunoco 116 and no MSD box.

Disco,
What brand and type of plug ? When I used to run regular 103s I would swap them every track event because they were cheap..But im sure they would have gone way over 10 passes.

I now run the Autolite racing plugs which are more $$$.They are 2-3 times colder than a 103. I have 12-13 passes on the current set. They dont look so hot , but idle well and does not pop or anything funny.

I have killed plugs in the past..usually with a hard start situation very rich tune and lots of idle time.

I run Autolite racing 3923's. The read good. Idles and runs drives fines. Just kills spark under a load.

What is the difference between a regular Autolite and a Racing autolite besides the cut back ground strap? Thinking about going back to regular autolites.

Race gas eats your plugs up? A little off subject, but I was able to run a .040 gap with no blow out, and it idled ALOT better, with autolite double platinums...stock heat range...I think APP24, and didnt have knock issues with 25 degrees timing and 23psi. I have slightly worse knock with AC's 2 heat ranges colder. Something about that double P plug makes it able to run a big gap. I ran the double P's down to .024" and it didnt run better...it ran worse. Pulled them after 10,000 miles and they looked great. No erosion or anything.

Funny you mention that. The Dbl platinums from Autolite say they are preferred for DIS systems..I know eveyone says dont use the platinum plugs but I saw that form Autolite. I've been running NGK TR5's for aluminum heads and they have performed the best and lasted the longest on leaded fuel for me. I havent tried the Dbl platinums.

i run NGK UR5IX and change them once a year car goes to the track 2 times a month and runs 10 12 passes each trip i run c16 all the time even when i drove it on the street these plugs lasted.

turbotoy

I think the heat from racing and running higher boost degrades the plugs along the race gas...I get about 2 days at the track out of the Autolite 103's and C16...that's about 6-8 runs...probably can get more out of them but why...as stated they are cheap...

I used to change mine every other week or before i went to race when running 100% leaded gas. Actually i had a few sets and just bead blasted the lead deposits off and reused them. Once a good coating of lead gets on there they wont fire. Its not about the spark blowing out. It doesnt, the electric current just travels through the lead deposits and right to ground. Not a good scenario on a wasted spark engine if your running high boost/rpm and have the risidual mixture from the misfire igniting on the exhaust stroke. When in doubt change the plugs or build your engine around lower boost and or methanol with less timing. With a 50% mixture of leaded fuel and methanol the plugs would last substanitally longer than pure leaded fuel. I could lay on it 50+ times all the way through 3rd without a misfire. Now on the advise of Jim Rome i will be changing my coil every few months with a new GM unit. Its just not worth it to misfire and detonate the hell out of a $5+k engine. BTW all the above with AC CR42TS @.030in.

Bead blasting the plugs is no bueno. I used to do that in high school cause I was poor, and always wondered why they fouled so much. Cause the porcelain and metal is rough and now attracts carbon deposits like glue.
I also have the AC 42's in right now. It runs ok, but they are more prone to knock then the double platinums were, 2 heat ranges hotter. Autolite is doing something right.

Autolite 23's, only running them @ tight .034. Approx 20+ passes....no misfires, and C16 exclusively....prolly about time I change them....but gonna run 'em tomorrow and see if there are any issues. If so, I'll swap 'em at the track. No biggie. :)

I ran several sets of autolite's and NGK's for 20+ passes with no issues at 7k rpm and 29# of boost. Maybe it's my hotter 7al ignition but I also feel a lot of it has to do with the tune. If you idle rich often it seems to kill them.

What autolite plugs does anyobdy recommend for an mid to hi 11 car?
