How much will it cost to fix this ding in the body?

The other day this guy lost control of his truck off of the side of the road and sprayed gravel into my car. It put numerous chips in my windshield, but luckily just one little ding in the hood. I chased after him and got his insurance info, but he would rather pay me a check for the damages. I got the price on the windshield, but don't have time to get an estimate from a body shop right now.

The ding is about 1/4 inch around and has a small chip in the middle that goes down to the metal. How much do you all think a body shop would charge to fix that? Shop owners please chime in.

Thanks,
Mike

BTW, this is on my '99 Regal GS.

I hope you still got his insurance info anyway..
Cause he may end up denying it with no police report
or exchange of info..

I would still put the claim into your insurance & PD station or however they do it in your state.

As for the ding just stop into a reputable shop for the quote.

I have similar story: Son was out helping me remove the white stuff from cars. The snowbrush had an exposed edge of metal because some how the plastic cracked off.

Bran New FREKING mini van.. Scraaaaaaatch along the tailgate.
I did not see it because we rarley drive this GAS PIG.
But I saw it a few days ago :(

Got the old Chrome polish because it is gritty & worked it into
the paint.. came out so so.. May have to go route of re-spray :(
My deductible is $500 SUKS cause I know it will be less.

I have his insurance info. That was the first thing I did. I have his policy, agent, claims phone #, truck licence plate #, VIN, home #, and business card.

I'm going to go to a shop after the holidays, but I'm just curious on a ballpark figure. Aren't a few members body shop owners?

Mike try the body section here on TB. I am guessing it will be $150 - 200.. They always get 4 hours min. I bet..

I've had many dents of that size removed without formal body work....Take it to a detail expert who does door dings routinely. The people who take out hail dents with the same tools can do it too.

I'm confident it can be removed by pressure from the under side of the hood, then, touched up as needed. Tipically less than $50 plus whatever it takes to touch up the paint :)

God Luck :)

Yeah I forgot about that.. DENT WIZARDS? or something..

What about POPS A DENT? itsn't that a stick on pully or something?

You could go the ding doctor route but you'll still have the chipped paint to contend with. I would expect about $60 to pull the ding (from a ding doctor) and about another hour or so to "touch up" the paint and blend it..

Goodluck..
:)

Yeah, the paint is chipped down to the metal. I'd rather have a body shop take care of the whole thing.

Paint chip = repaint. A car that new will be a base clear and CANNOT be spotted in and look right and last.
What color is it and how close is it to a fender? If it's in the middle of the hood (no adjacent blend needed). You'll be a minimum of $300.00.

Dent wizard will be able to get the dent out 90% or so but the paint chip will have to be sanded and repainted out to be an invisible repair.

Thanks for the info. It is fairly centered on the hood. The car is white. I'm gonna go ahead and go through the insurance on this one. There's no way he'll cover all this by himself.
