How much boost can I get out of a stock turbo? I have a Dutt necked stock I/C, Razor's alky, and a stock DP with 3" exhaust. I have a TE44 and a GBodyparts DP on the car now but I liked the responsiveness of the stock units. I'd be happy if I can reach mid/ low 11s but I'm not sure I can do it on a stock turbo with the setup I have. Also, I have a Vig 3200 single disk convertor in the car. If I go back to the stock turbo, should I also go back to the stock convertor? Thanx in advance....:)

You would need a complete package to go low 11's with a stocker, ie heads, cam, etc.....

You will get there alot quicker with a bigger turbo. With that high of a stall the 49 should have felt just as good as the stocker!

A -44 and a 3200 stall should spool better than stock. You may have a tuning issue or a pre-turbo exhaust leak.

+1. There is almost no doubt that you have a pre turbo exhaust leak in the system. It may be that the wastegate puck isnt sealing. It should be faster than the stock setup with that converter especially if with the .63 ex. I would think a .85ex would still be as fast as stock with that converter. The 44 with the .85 should go mid 11's no problem and low 11's if you really push it hard and lighten the car up a little.

dewey, usually the stock turbo will be blowing hot air into the motor above 20 psi with the alky you can go significantly higher due to the reduced air temps.do a search and you will find ed brewer running low 11's at 116mph,it can be done but you have to replace alot of gas for alky.now a 44 turbo and a 3200 vig should rock so i would check the areas bison has suggested above.ed brewer ran a 3000 stall i believe so you wouldn't have to restall the converter should you decide to stick with the stock turbo, although if it were my car the 44 and the vig would stay on without a doubt as mid to low 11's is considerably easier to obtain.also the exhaust housings play a big part on the spooling of the turbo so check and see which one is on, stay with the pte 63 or garret 63 good luck!
