I've been shopping for a painter and have gotten several prices and procedures. Some wet sand the color coats and apply 2 or more coats, then they also wet sand the clear coat. Others just wet sand the clear coat. I have some hail dings, and need a piece of metal cut out on the rear fender and new metal welded in. General consensus is, expect to pay from $3000 to $7000. Is this what everybody is paying? I know, cheap bodywork isn't good, and good bodywork isn't cheap. How much does this come to for labor on an hourly basis?

I paid $5k for my down to bare metal, gut the car,add GNX flare's and vent's, paint, install new rubber's,and reassemble.Look's awesome.I had my cousin who own's a body shop do it and it took about 18 month's.Car was straight too.

Not familiar with wet sanding the color coat, if you're going to clear it. Black will practically cover in one coat. Although, I would put at the very least two coats of black after seal coat of primer. The Clear is what you work..........not the color. You're car sounds like a $4 to $5K job, depending on how much bodywork is involved. When it's done, you should be happy, and if you're not, you picked the wrong shop/painter.

im doing mine. i stripped it down to bare metal painting it at a body shop but i know the owner pretty well so its only gonna cost me my labor and the materials but he said thy just did a 65 mustang like that and it cost the guy 7,000:eek: i will cost me about 700:cool:

boy am i lucky

I'll buy you a plane ticket R/T to Illinois. When can you start? The pizza's on me.

depending on how much body work AND what finish quality you expect - I would say $4000.00 - $8000.00. If perfection is your goal - count on even more....
