This seems to be a common place for GN's to leak oil and I think I have a small leak. At this point, tend to believe a rear main seal. How much is about normal for a shop to fix?

I do em for 130$, rear main seal and oil pan gasket included. I have the customer bring the oil and filter they want.

Russ, I sure wish that we were closer together. Your price almost makes me want to go out and blow mine intentionally.
I just paid a shop ( Buick dealership ) about $250, and that included me bringing my own oil and filter. And don't say that it was because it was a dealership, because all of the shops around here that have a good reputation for being good at turbo repair charge about the same. I have found out that most of the dealerships will honor their warranty work somewhat better than independent service repair shops.

Is the rear main a one piece or two piece? A buddy of mine said it would be easy if all we had to do was drop the tranny, but said if 2 piece it is a bitch.

What needs to be done to replace the gasket?

rear seal

I paid $100 plus oil pan gasket, oil, filter and neoprene seal. Be sure it is not the valve cover gaskets... if the rear main hasn't been done then it is likely leaking. I heard a story that a GN owner bought one off the show room floor with a leaky rear main. --- Whatever --- :D

Mine leaked at 8K miles so I had the dealer put a new seal in.

Unfortunately they used a new rope seal.

Luckily the car is still running. ;)

Lasted until I started using synthetic oil, now I get a few drips overnight. 154K on it.

Going to the two piece neoprene someday. :)

You don't drop the tranny for the neoprene seal, just the oil pan and the rear main cap bottom.
