This isn't a turbo buick question in particular, but I was told you guys would be the best ones to talk to for this qustion.

I have an 85 cutlass with a 305 and a 2004r which has about 7000 miles since being rebuilt. This summer I plan on building the 305 up abit, I think it should be about 270 hp, and about 290 ft/lbs.

My question is, will the stock (non gn or monte carlo) 2004r hold up to this motor?

I plan on putting a shift kit in as well as a transmission cooler, should I change anything else?

What would be the max horse power I could run and still have this tranny live a long life?

Thanks

you aint right but guess you already know that .....lol

be pullin one out mine tomarrow bet you'll be getting a call for some billet shafts ;)

A 200 should have no problem standing behind a 305. These things hold up behind 502's. Also, many of these GN cars are developing serious serious power in front of the 200.

First off, WELCOME to the board, Cursor!

The shift kit & trans cooler are 2 excellent and worthwhile ideas.
Keep in mind that not all kits & coolers are created equal, so get the very best of both.

Get a magnetic drain plug installed in your pan and/or put some STRONG magnets in your pan. Change your filter often--at least yearly--or every 10-12K.

Don't go nuts with revving in neutral, then slamming into gear OR downshifting OR lots of holding stall against the brakes.

Hope you'll visit & post often. Let us know how the tranny/car are doing.

HTH :)
