I just got done reading a thread where it was stated that too much ZDDP was as bad as not enough. The bottle says to add to a 4-5 quart oil change, I have a PTE turbo saver with a big Napa Gold 1049 oil filter so I use just over 6 quarts on a oil change. The last few years I have been using one whole bottle of ZDDP and 1 once of another one at each oil change. My question is does anyone know how much ZDDP is needed per quart of oil to keep the levels safe, what is the rule of thumb ? Thanks, Kyle.

Kyle, Gotta check the ZDDP / Phosphate levels contained in the specific oil you are using as some may contain higher or lower levels than others right outta the bottle .
Why are you using an another additive too? Probably not needed.

With my RJC Deep Oil Pan I use about 7 qts of Brad Penn 10W-40 & only 1/2 bottle of ZDDP Plus with each oil change.
FYI.....From what I've read the ZDDP levels tend to diminish somewhat in the first thuousand miles or so of use.

Some people will say it's just snake oil in a bottle & just a waste of money & don't feel it brings any value, however I believe in it and have used it for years without issue particularly if you're running a flat tappet cam, I figure it's cheap insurance.

Just my 2cents. :)

Dave thanks for the quick reply. I have been using 6 quart of 10w-30 for the summer months and 5w-30 for the winter months of Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil which I believe has 0% of ZDDP/phosphate. I only use one additive, being ZDDP Plus, 1full bottle and 1 once from another bottle. I might start looking into finding a synthetic oil that has all the nessesary amount of ZDDP/phosphate needed for our cars, I hate adding an additive to the oil hoping I added enough, to have the nessesary amount of ZDDP/phosphate needed. Thanks again for your reply, Kyle.

1 bottle even with 6 qts should be fine. I run one bottle per oil change and it ends up being 5.5 qts filling it up and another 1/2 qt added over the 2k-3k mile interval. I use a FT cam that I installed three years ago. It's been overly flogged since and runs like a top. Heavier springs than normal may require a bit more.

I have the PTE turbo saver with the big oil filter also, I just use only one bottle of ZDDP with every oil change. Been doing that for years. Other buick owners I know do the same thing, should be ok if you keep up with regular oil changes.

Would an once of additive, give or take, really make a difference.
