Hey guys. I just wanted to know how often you get down far enough on the gas to make the little needle on your boost guage move : ) Every day? multiple times a day? hardly ever? how often do you do full throttle blasts down the road, and how much boost are you running in general? Im worried about the durability of my motor. I mean, i know that you guys on here all list super fast dragstrip times, but is that the only time you stomp on em? I never get down on mine, i fear that boost will damage it, especially not knowing EXACTLY whats in the bottom of my engine. I know it has good oil pressure, 20 psi hot idle or so, no oil cooler, when it gets really hot like pulling a 4 mile hill through the mountains it will drop to about 14 psi, which scares me. I know it doesnt make too much noise, its smooth, but i just cant see these engines holding up to repeated blasts all the time. i havent gotten more than 5 psi boost in around 8 months or so. I just feel that im pushing my luck. Anyone know how long these things will last under pressure ike this?

The bore is perfect std no ridge, perfect compression all across of 145 psi. polished rods, all stock pistons, but one was replaced inside before i got to it, and it looks different??

Should i worry or will it hold up to abuse like i wouldnt believe.

Thanks guys

ha...before i put my car away for storage i boosted up to full throttle DAILY and multiple times daily! i run about 15 lbs on my bigger te-44 turbo and my motor is STOCK with 85k miles on it...driven daily and i put a pounding on it...i have even raced it numerous times at the track and many times on the street:D hasn't let me down yet...a few times at the track i made some mistakes and i redlined the knock meter a couple times...the motor keeps asking for more...these IMO are one of the strongest built motors of all time...it's all cast iron!

My Daily Driver T

On my 86 t I try and baby the car.
It is really stock for now and the stock chip does not
like full throttle. Only go for full boost to relieve road rage.
340, AFPR and Scam master coming. That should give me a little more piece of mind.

Give'r Some

As long as you have a knock gauge or a scan tool to monitor knock retard ,and your car is running good(properly tuned) dont be afraid to boost it up.Make sure you have enough octane.Boost doesnt hurt a motor but detonation will kill it.Just dont run too much boost on pump gas.I usually mix a little race gas in my 93oct cause the gas around here sux. I dont take any more chances because I have bought a couple motors over the years and dont care to again soon.As long as you see no knock dont be afraid to get after it.Be safe and watch out for the Boys in Blue.

Daily! What's the fun of having a turbo car if you're afraid of a little boost? Knock is what you need to be afraid of!

I live for freeway on-ramps! I boost to 12 ~ 15 PSI on a daily basis. Basically, as long as it is safe to do so, I hit it.

OK, so far sounds like i should stomp all i want as long as i watch the knock guage. correct? keep posting, thanks

EFD, baby!

I can't drive it like a granny for long. I try, but never get very far. Hey, that's why I have it though. Otherwise, I'd get a Honda.

every day, whether its revenge on someone who cut me off, someone who is trying to pass me so they can slam on the brakes and make a right turn infront of me when there is plenty of room behind me (i hate those fvckers i swear), or just the average pedestrian that needs an earful of open exhaust.

boost every day as long as the gas gauge can afford it
:D

I don't drive my GN that much...busy with the race car...but when I do I stomp on it all the time...22 PSI boost...97 octane Thrasher chip...but I do run 101 unleaded only...race car when I do drive on the street...WOT whenever I can...110 race chip...26 PSI boost...mixture of 110/116 race gas...can only do short blasts though because I'm up to 70-80 MPH in no time...not good on surface streets...don't be afraid to get into boost...just do like others have said and make sure the car is dialed in so you get no knock...

Probably everytime I drive it, at least 3 or 4 times just in that one run:D That might be why I am putting in my new rebuilt motor right now ( I never saw knock but I have 3 broken dampers and 3 wiped lobes:rolleyes: ) But really my families 86 has 145,000 on it and I rag the crap outta it and it just wants more. Just check the knock and watch for cops as stated above. Oh and have fun.

Hahaha, Man I floor mine all the the time! I run 21 psi all the time with SMC alky. That's what these cars were made for! As long as you got a scan tool and watch Knock and other basic warnings it will be fine.

Well when I go for a drive with my cars I press on it yeah, but I never floor it completely. Even when I'm street racing I'm not at the floor, anyway I dont need to be at the floor to win ;) Only place I would be to the floor is at the track.

Everytime I drive it and I drive mine 3-4 times a week. 21-23 lbs boost on the street with the smc alky. I spank it on the way to the track, at the track and on the way home from the track.:D I wouldn't buy anything I wasn't going to use.

Car put away for the winter now. When it's on the road I boost it to the max all the time. Smc alky --Boost between 17 and 23 lbs. New engine now,old engine had 120,000 before I spun a bearing. Country roads where I live(don't tell anyone)on weekends 15+or- full quarter mile runs a day with my G Tech. During the week obey the speed limit, but, nail it on on ramps!! Go fo cruises in the country for relaxment and to enjoy the power.I think it's fairly reliable for what I put it thru. That's the suspention, brakes and everthing else besides the engine.

If your car is mostly stock, set boost at 15 PSI ( no higher with pump gas). Replace your fuel pump if you haven't done so already, and change fuel filter on a regular basis! As long as you have adequate fuel supply, you won't get into trouble at 15 psi.

Always monitor your KR if nothing else! ..........Then..........

DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT

These cars are not as delicate as you seem to think! Keep up on maintenance, and beat the ever loving snot out of it! It won't let you down:D
