I was just wondering if the digital dash GNs are rare? Ive owned three grand nationals and all three were the reg. analog speedometers. If so or not does anyone know how many of these were made?

Nobody knows for sure.

I'd guess on the 20,000 1987 GN's that were made, probably 5k to 8k had them.

I wouldn't think or say they were rare at all for an option.

Mine has it, not proud of that fact either. :p

Hi,
The only G body Buick that had adequate gauges was the GNX. Your digital equipped vehicle is not too desireable, functionally. I understand after 85 mph, the display flashes. That's really informative. Of course, the analog speedo is not any better. My TTA has full instrumentation, and a 140 mph speedo. Now we are getting somewhere.I wish the Buick engineers had spent an extra $50, and made what amounts to one of their greatest cars monitorable. But it was left to ASC to properly design the dash. Se La Vie!

The Buick Regals were the only G-bodies to recieve the digital gauge option. From what I've seen that was a common option on a lot of the 84-86 cars as these tended to be fully optioned out models. If I had to guess I'd say at least 50-60% of the 84-86 cars got it. Its not all that common on the 87. I dont know if it was the price or the fact that you could get a base Regal with the LC2 as it was almost impossible to order every option on the list like you could before 1986. You either had a stripped down model or a fairly well equipped one. IMO you don't a full gauge package. Just use a scan tool for the serious work. Set the car up to shift in drive so none of the lights come on. A properly tuned car wont overheat, has plenty of volts and its a Buick. It will run with low oil pressure.
