The line on my K-B hood mounted gauge had a hole cut in it from lying on the alternator. It cut through the stainless hose and even through the inner plastic hose. I un-hooked it and it has been like this for almost a year now. Is there any way to fix this or will I have to pay K-B $45 for a new hose?

How nice do you want it to look? Do you just want it to work? If so, then get a barb for the size of the hose and two good screw typr clamps. Tape the hose about 1" on both sides of the damage. Cut the hose into and then blow out or make sure there is not trash in either end of the hose. Then push the bard into the two pieces and use the clamps to make sure it doesn't come apart. Then remove any tape from the hose. The tape was to help keep the stainless covering from fraying (sp).

hose

Damn! I did the exact same thing!! If it hit the alternator, it was probably near the end of the hose?? I had a 6ft piece so I was able to cut it off and have a new end put on. A word of advice, dont buy a high dollar hose. Look in the yellow pages under hydraulics and go to a hyd. hose place and have them make you one. I was told they would have made me one for $20 and I paid $50 for an AutoMeter one! Hydraulic shops are also a good source for trans pressure gages, had mine made up (0-300 psi w/7ft of hose and all fittings) for less than $25.

Pick up a 90 degree or 180 degree -4AN adapter too while you're at it to keep it from happening again.

Look at the pictures, 3rd one in particular, on my website and "click" on the pictures to enlarge them.

Check the "T" and ELBOW for the line and how I routed it along the other lines. Never had a problem.

Sqeeze87 has hit the nail

Get in that phone book and find a local hose and rubber company, you'll save yourself at least 40% on all your hose needs. We've got Amazon hose here in tampa, and they have just about done my whole car, and for alot less than the local speed shops or Buick vendors. - BB

if this is a braided TEFLON hose, then you cannot reliably use a hose barb conenction, even with clamps. Teflon "cold flows" and will extrude out, creating leaks, unless it is fully captured in a hose end specifically intended for teflon. I sure wouldn't use it with any hazardous fluid, if this was the case.

Hose patch??

DO NOT patch the hose, unless you use the Aeroquip/ Russell, Earls couplings.Like Tom said, it'll leak and then you'll be calling the fire dept.. [Murphy is watching!!;) ]
Here's atrik to prevent this from happening again. Go to the local hdwe and get a piece of clear vinyl tubing and slip it over the braided hose B4 you put the last end on.. You can still see the "pretty hose" and be safer too. THEN you won't be shorting it out, or worse yet, letting the braid eat up your wiring!! braide hose rubbing on wiring WILL take the insulation off in short order!! BTDT!!
BTW, Areoquip does not sell 180* hose ends for -4.. Wish they did!!

I knew there must have been a reason I used 2 90s. ;)

Simple trick that has worked for me with over 125K miles. brought hose straight off the fuel rail layed it across the alternator up past the master cylinder to the hood mount gauge. A ty-wrap on the altenator case bolt one on the m/c and no problems !
