hey guys i just bought a new project car its a 78 trans am pretty decent body but needs a complete resto. any way it has the cars & concepts t-tops and the weather stripping for the tops is hard and flat. would just go out and buy a new set but the company is out of business and the seals are no longer produced so i was wondering if anyone her knows of a way that i could bring these back to life. i have searched the internet for a couple hours and read that one way would be to take them off and boil them ( i would rather not remove them for fear of ripping them ) and also using silicone spray or dielectric grease. these were offered as suggestions but couldnt find any results or proof that it works. any suggestions are appreciated i just dont want to experiment and make them any worse.

Go to a Honda dealer parts department and ask for "Shin-Etsu" It's an awesome product developed specifically for softening weatherstrip.

mink oil ? whats that and where can i find it ?

I think its used for leather jackets . My older brother used to use it on his camaro weather stripping and his John Travolta leather jacket:biggrin: Walmart would probably have it.

It's a leather care product like saddle soap.

Do a search for the 301 garage. It's a forum all about the original TTA cars. Joe's the owner and there's plenty of tech over there and sources for parts that you may need. When you sign up use my board name as a referal. Same name over there.:)

thanks for the help and suggestions, im thinking about giving the Shin Etsu a try saw it mentioned in a post on another board. but has anyone witnessed the results of it

I was a Honda mechanic for a long time I might have some left. Let me know I live near Detroit I can get it to you works great.
