Guys -

I got my car working and kicks ass. I now need to tune it.

Heres what i have so far for the basics.

009 injectors
ta45e 60 mm turbo non-ball bearing
70 mm dog house
champion heads
champion matched intake
head studs
billet main and studs down low
forged rods and forged je pistons.
3" downpipe
4" intake pipe
stretch intercooler
external wastegate.

OK, the cars runs good. I am running 93 octane, and tonight i pulled 12.70's which seems slow for that car at 18 psi boost. o2 = 750 with about 6* knock at the 3rd gear shift.

I thought the car should go quicker than that.

Here is how i tuned my wastegate. I turned up the gate till it made about 18 lbs of boos with the valve with the hose off the wastegage complelty closed to make about 18 lbs. My valve is complelty closed at this point.

My spool is ok. I set my fuel psi at 50 lbs.

Is there a better way to create that boost like turning down the wastegate and then using the valve or something?

My traction was pretty good so I know there is time there but It doesnt seem to be making the power on just 93 like other guys on this board seem to be making with a similar setup?

My question is how do i tune the car now to run low 12's on 93?

I searched some posts but didnt find anything so if you have something to refer to please post it.

Thanks,
JP

Ditto on the chip and your fuel pressure should be set at 42 lbs. line off. Rich conditions kill your performance also. I had just about the same combo except I was running a smaller TE44 and ran 11.4s. I had Alky so I was able to turn the boost up to 26 lbs. Alky is awesome. That would be my next upgrade if I were you. if you are only getting 18 lbs,. them I would check the spring in your external WG. RJC makes an awesome controller for about $50 shipped!

If you are seeing 6* of knock already you may need to consider turning the boost down a couple of pounds and leanin it out, 42#'s F/P, line off. You have alot of goodies there, I would consider running race gas or some alky to protect it all. 93 octane can destroy a good motor at high boost:eek:

its going to be slow with 6 degrees of knock retart in third get some alky plus those 009's arent going to cut it with that te45

I have never super fine tuned - it is enough to just keep up with the regular maintenance!

But what has done OK by me is to of course make sure all the stuff is right: plugs wires, filters and fluids, sensors set right and in good condition.

Then just run as much boost as possible with out leaning or knocking.

I am assuming that you forgot to mention that you have a high performance fuel pump and hot wire kit, if not check with any of the vendors on this sight. If you find a set of 60 # injectors I would get them, turbo tweak chip, and razor's alky kit. The chip has to match your injectors. After you get the combo that you want order the chip, tell Eric your combo and you will be set.

yeah i forgot

I have the walbro 340 and I have erics turbo tweek for that car.
The scan master of course is giving me all these readings. I have edited my first post to include this.

I will try turning the fuel psi down to 42 and backing out the waste gate bolt.

What do I do with that valve on the wastegate? keep it closed or turn that as well?

Isnt the o2 millivolts which tells me how much boost and fuel pressure to run and since I am getting knock i need to turn back the boost or turn up the fuel psi?

Leave fp at 42-43 for now. The knock seems to be lack of octane for the boost you are running with that particular wheezer..which is a killer street bruiser. Correct on the millivolts.BUT more fuel pressure will only compensate for a lack of octane to a small degree...you have passed that point. Untill you learn a bit more leave the fp at a constant and tune with octane and boost going in small 1-2 lb increments or there will be headgaskets or worse in your near future..:D . Check TurboRegal webring website for good info along with www.vortexbuicks.com for good info.

vortexbuicks.com is a great site. I would also suggest a logging program, this way you can see more information on the run. The free ones aren't bad (not as good as directscan or powerlogger) but still work.
earlbrown sells the cables here: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/pa...ables-free-scantools.html?highlight=earlbrown
I have the free programs I can email to you.

external gate question

there is a line off the external wastegate with a valve. The valve turns.

What does this valve do? How do I use that valve to adjust boost?

do you mean a te45a....never heard of a ta45e. A te45a is a 66mm turbo. You will max those 009s out quickly with a te45a.
