how to verify 87 numbers match

I am looking to get a 87 gn, however I am new to it, and want to verify that it is what it is, and not a replacement motor or trans bieng it is a low mile, naturally.

Vin is stamped on the engine at the back left side of the block. Trans is on the back right hand. Trans should have a Yellow BRF tag near the vin.

H as the 10th digit in the VIN number designates 1987 model year. 7 as the 8th digit means it's turbo car. WE4 on the RPO label on the trunk lid means it's real Grand National. Sometimes that label is missing due to a repaint or accident. Heg87t is right on about the eng/trans code locations. The last few numbers of the VIN would be there meaning matching numbers, if that's a big deal to you. I would definitely get a CARFAX first, verifying low mileage.

WE2 is the RPO code for a Grand National.

I believe to verify the trans its on the left side stamped into the pan rail behind the shift linkage
Not on the right side
This is the number that will have the last numbers of ur vin
