Anyone used this brand before?

I am trying to install a 3rd muffler in the cat converter location, which really only leaves room for a muffler 12" long or less. And it needs to be 3.5" inlet and outlet. So my only real choices (according to a search at Summit) are a Howe Muffler, or a Dynatech Split-Flow at $60 more. There are other 3.5" in/out mufflers but none of them are short enough to fit in the cat location.

The Howe is only $35 so it's not too risky to just buy it and try it, but money is money and I want to know if this will even quiet it down at all. They are marketed as full race mufflers, and just say it will keep you under the max dB limit that some race organizations impose on the cars.

I was just looking at those. They look like they would do little for sound reduction. Magnaflow makes short oval and around mufflers in 3.5" in and out. They are over $100 a piece, but they should quiet it down. I think I am going use one in place of the cat on my 3.5" single.

Yeah... that's what I'm thinking. The actual muffler body itself is only 6" long. Same can be said for the Dynatech one. 6" of straight-through muffler isn't going to do much.

Those mufflers are basically built to circumvent or fullfill muffler requirements in certain classes. They dont do much for sound deadening. In a TR cat position along with a regular muffler they may do enough to kill some drone and make things quieter, but I would rather run a dynomax bullet in that position for a sure thing.

Cant you use the 16.5 in Dynomax Ultra flow bullet (24216) in there ? Its got a 12in body.Trim the stubs down enough for a weld it should put you at under 12.5?

ive tried a 3.5 muffler in that location and it didnt make a noticable difference. the further downstream a muffler is, the more effective it is.

I was considering trying something like that. But like you mentioned, the case itself is 12", I'd have to do some extreme trimming to both ends. I still need enough material to slip over the downpipe, and at the back end I need something to weld the 4-bolt flange to.

Thanks for the input. I agree with you, a muffler that far up isn't going to do much, the exhaust gas will just fly right through it.

Back to the drawing board!
