Have the Hughes deep trans pan w/7004r filter, works great but I just can't get the cork gasket to stop leaking. It's driving me nuts, tried a new cork gasket with selant, still drips from pass side front corner, checked every thing, no cracks, etc. is there a better gasket out there other than the thinner stock ones or the thick cork that I am using. thanks.

Is that stamped Steel or welded ? Brand new and it leaks ? Used and it leaks ?

It's the hughes cast aluminum pan, all sufaces are flat and true, I think it is the cork gasket, don't know. Thanks for input.

I've used "The Right Stuff" gasket maker using no gasket with much success. Last two trans pans (stock) I tried to just use a gasket on leaked. Not anymore!

Pan Torque

You're not over tightening the bolts are you? The stock pan only needs 6-10ft.lbs. of torque. May be cutting or pushing the gasket out of place.

I always preferred the black GM gaskets over any cork. I haven't picked up a 5-pack for the 200-4R in a while though. Guess I need to. :)

The gasket is NOT the problem.

Having worked with Jeff Hughes on the protype pan and having sold and used many of them, we found the problem is not with any specific type gasket.

The pan bolts holding the shift cable bracket are not blind holes, but actually go through into the case. For some reason with an alum pan, the ATF will "wick" around and out of the bolt.

To solve this problem, it is necessary to use a proper sealant on these bolt threads. Teflon tape does not make a long lasting seal, but the teflon paste sealant does.

Good Info

Glad to know that. I haven't mounted my Hughes 2004R pan yet and will be using the thread sealer.

i had the same problem with a deep pan but no parts store or online store has the liquid thread sealant anymore just little tubes and its 4.00 for 4 oz tube.

anybody knows where to get the little tub at, it has a brush in the cap too?

Clean the threads (maleand female) with brake clean and then get soem permatex #2 sealant and put it on the threads and be done.
It stays pliable
