I figured out that someone had modified the brackets and thats why they wont fit.
I would guess that the UM6 is the base model am/fm cassette stereo?

radio

WRONG!...there were two styles of the top-of-the-line radio code "UX1". One has a silver thin border around the main unit and the other does not. EITHER ONE IS CORRECT! (See Kirban's Guide to 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regals" on page 166).

Claude. :)

Ive got his books and will have to check it out, NOT !
I will take your word for it.
I thought, oh brother I just bought a GN CS2 radio on EBAY last week and it has the chrome outline on it, and the existing one in my 86 does not.

Either way, except for that little chrome strip, they appear to me to be identical.

Not exactly...here's a run down on the radio options:

1˚: RPO code "UL5" = radio delete.
2˚: RPO code "U63" = base AM radio.
3˚: RPO code "UK4" = AM-FM radio without clock.
4˚: RPO code "UM7" = AM-FM radio with clock.
5˚: RPO code "UP6" = AM stereo and FM stereo with clock ('86 only).
6˚: RPO code "UM6" = AM-FM radio with cassette and clock.
7˚: RPO code "UX1" = AM-FM radio with cassette auto reverse/ search/repeat, clock and equalizer.

Hope this list answers most questions!...:D

I figured out what the issue is. These brackets were bolted to a mounting plate for an after market stereo and someone bent them to shorten the distance between the holes.
