Ok guys, I have a question reguarding what material is supposed to be exposed on the package tray on a 84 GN. When I got the car there was a blue cardboard/masonite package tray which i knew was wrong. I was wondering if there was supposed to be a sandstone colored masonite piece for the package tray or if it was supposed to be bare. The reason I ask if it was supposed to be bare was when I pulled the blue piece out there is a semi-package tray piece there that is colored similiar to the leather portions in the middle of the buckets. The plastic piece I'm talking about is also textured as well. I kinda doubt GM would put a textured piece of plastic on the package tray to have it covered up by a masonite backed piece of carpet. Firebird350 or someone who has a very pristine interior could you just take a digital pic and shoot it my way at

I would greatly appreciate any assistance you guys can be.

I can snap you a pic of the one I took out of my 84 GN. (If you want it we can talk)

If I remember correctly it is Grey Cardboard with small Slits for the Speakers..but I will take a Pic for you.

Take Care,

Waco,

Mine was colored similar to the grey leather on the seats. I wouldn't say it was exact but close(maybe faded from the sun) it had the slits for the speakers that Herb mentioned. It was also made of a cardboard type material that was brown on the backside and it was all one piece that just slid in. There is plastic pieces on each end that cover the seam as well but they are not attached to the tray.

I wish I could take a picture for you but I disliked the way it looked and I carpeted mine black(and now I love it!). I snapped some pics of it carpeted if you want to see it let me know.

Also, keep in mind that this description was from memory and I could be off, let me know if I confused you anywhere. Later, Steve.

I'm not sure about the GN's but the 84 T-Types(owned a few) had carpeting covering the package shelf so I'm sure the GN would be the same. All G-bodies used the pressed fiberboard with two speaker cut outs that was painted the same color as the interior. Some where around 83 or 84 all the Regals got carpet back on this piece as standard. One of them Buicks are more luxurious than Chevys thing. On the earlier Regals only the Limiteds had carpet here. The vinyl end caps just take up the gap between the package shelf and upper 1/4 trim and usually have one little staple holding it to the shelf.
