Sometimes money can't replace stolen items so she was determined to try and find it. Sounds like she had some coaching to look on the fleamarket circut but by the sounds of it she's still looking! Drew

This is off the topic, Iknow--but I just remembered a time years ago when my then girlfriend was doing our laundry downstairs. I hear her stomp-running up the stairs and she runs over and throws a bra in my face. 'Why the hell are you throwing your bra at me?!' I asked. She replied, 'That's not mine, dips***--it's not even the right size!' After taking a closer look, I realized she was right. She tortured me for weeks trying to get me to tell her how some (very busty) strangers' undergarments had gotten into our clothes. We didn't have anyone living with us or anything. To this day I still wonder who's bra that was. (If she hadn't been so mad about it, perhaps I would have asked her if she had been 'jumping the fence' when I wasn't around.);) :D

Tell em to pound sand.

Your innocent until PROVEN guilty.

It sucks being accused of something like that, but you said your innocent, so ignore em. Life's to short to sweat the small .

no DON'T do this...that's what the prosecution wants you to do...anyone can fail or pass a lie detector test...if you are really innocent and fail a lie detector than they can use it in court against you...if you don't take one then they cannot hold it against you in court...you don't have to say ONE WORD to the police...get an attorney and if they keep harrassing you tell them to F off and talk to your lawyer...

i know that feeling...i'm going through the same thing right now...i am being falsely accused of pouring paint stripper all over some guy's new car and the guy thinks i did it just because i am with his ex girlfriend now:rolleyes: but there's no evidence whatsoever...so the cops keep calling me and my girlfriend asking to talk to him...we keep ignoring him and we have both contacted a lawyer just in case...

I would not take a polygraph test regardless of who did what.
If it really happened, they would have contacted the police first, not second. Sounds like they are getting ready to make an insurance claim and they wanted some back-up material just for drill.
I would tell them to go ahead and contact the police.
I would not take a polygraph test regardless of what the police say or threaten you with.

Yep she was on a witch hunt as her own husband put it when we talked together in private. He was the one who told us that the insurance company settled the claim.

I can understand wanting to find something of sentimental value
in a way. It suck being both the victim or accused when you know you really didn't do anything wrong.

She is probabbly dead today ;) so I assume the witch hunt is gone. Anyway hardly any flea markets exist anymore as Ebay & land values are putting an end to the FLEAS LOL!

I'm sorry but that was funny :D ;) :p (and also appropriate given the situation).

I hate to hear about your situation. Sounds to me like these jokers don't stand a chance of proving you stole anything. They say you stole it, you say you didn't, end of case. They are probably hoping that your liability insurance company will just write them a check and not fight the situation. I also agree that unde no circumstances would I take a polygraph. In your situation it would appear that with a polygraph test you would have nothing to gain but possibly everything to lose. Who knows how accurate the test really is? Good luck.

Why is nobody questioning the credibility of the accuser? Just because they live in an affluent neighborhood doesn't mean they're honest.

"Rich" or not.........money is money. Sounds like a $30k scam to me

I am a prosecutor...

and there is NO way a polygraph can be used in ANY criminal court. It has never been shown to be scientifically accurate (hence the prior comments about innocents failing). Polygraph is worse than handwriting analysis which is mostly voodoo also! Nevertheless, a failed polygraph escalates the interrogation to the next level and is enough to get a prosecutor to take his chances going forward (assuming there is SOME other corroboration).

Sweat it out and take it to its extreme. If you get charged tell them to "pick twelve". No jury in the world would convict. This has reasonable doubt all over it.

The standard circumstantial argument is that mom bakes a chocolate cake. There are 3 kids in the house. Nobody sees who ate the cake, but one kid has chocolate on his hands and mouth. Who ate the cake? The problem with the analogy is that you have no frosting (corroboration) on you. The part about taking off jewelery and wringing towels adds to the reasonable doubt (can anyone think of any other place the ring might have gone?)

The polygraph MIGHT be used against you in an administrative proceeding to determine whether you keep your job, and may be used in a civil case for conversion (theft) seeking recovery of the value. The burden of proof is much lower in civil, and you'd be in hot water with a bad polygraph.

Bottom line - don't do the polygraph.

AMEN to this quote!
Or
because they have money means the have more class status.

We are all equal rich or poor even though the poor guy catches the finger pointing.

I just don't understand people. I don't leave my car keys laying around when there's strangers in the house, much less jewelry worth 30k. Some chick in the office left her purse in an empty office here in the last week of consruction. There were maybe 30 giterdones and movers running around and guess what, she happened to have $300 in cash in her purse that day. HELLO? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING????? Gone.

Tell them to pound sand, and don't talk to them anymore. They can't prove you took it, so it's done.

AsphaltAnihil8r, maybe you were accused because you DID steal the diamond! I mean, c'mon now...we all know the real crooks are the ones that hold their hands up in front of their faces, or hold a notebook in front of their faces....or wear a paper bag over their head so the news crews can't get a good shot of their face as they're taken away doin' the perp walk. hehehe
Just couldn't resist with the avatar. ;)

**Please excuse any content in this post as the author is still under the influence of cold remedy medication**

The night in Question ,I was not sporting the bag..Quess they were very observant,,they seen it in my eyes--theif...

After careful deductive analysis I believe the ring went into the hamburger meat just like on I Love Lucy. :p :p

If your memory is that bad, maybe you are a "2 bagger", and w/ the first bag off, you really didn't read all the posts telling you NOT to take the poly......

My take on it?? The old bitch lost the damn ring, or maybe the setting, and was afraid to tell her old man.. have your lawyer run a BI on him/her. Maybe he has a history of wife abuse, and she's CHA!! :D :D

Exactly the way I feel. They have no proof. Really, it must be a slow month around the precinct for them even to be bothering. IGNORE THEM AND GO ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS. ;)
