While I was working on my car Friday, I put my keys down on the bumper of my dad's truck. I had to run to the parts store, so I borrowed my dad's truck, and like an idiot, drove off with my Buick keys still on the bumper. Needless to say, they're history now.

How do I get another set of keys for this thing? I know locksmiths can make keys, but I was wondering if I could just go through GM to get another set. Does anyone know?

Call the dealer and give them your vin number. Or you will have to go to a lock smith. When you buy a car it usually have a tag with letters and numbers with the keys, this is how the dealer get new keys made for you.

I do know for a fact that a locksmith can make you a set of keys. They will have to remove a lock cylinder from one door and the ignition cylinder. They can cut a key based on the number on the lock cylinder itself.

You can check with your local GM parts counter and see if they can make a set based on vin number. There is a good chance that they can.

Good luck!

It is doubtful that even the selling dealer will still have records available for the key numbers of your 15 year old car? No other dealer even had those records.

A GOOD auto locksmith can take impressions from your ignition and door locks and make a key. Takes my friend about 5 minutes a key! Cheapest way is to remove the lock cylinders, and even a novice can make a key from the code on them.
