This measures 2 3/4" deep, and since the stock pans are 2 9/16 deep, I'm wondering what this pan came from. Any ideas? Doing a gasket/filter change and want to see if it'd be ok to run this or upgrade.

Ok, the plot thickens. The convertor has 7s stamped around its circumference...and the numbers found on the trans were:
metal tag on ext housing: 169-871BRF0303
drivers side bellhousing: Hydramatic 8639224
above shift linkage: CFD-9

The trans shifts well and TC lockup works as it should. Thoughts?

Looks Like a custom pan someone deeped. Have you dropped it yet. I'm thinking it might have a "bottom feed" 700r4 filter.
It has a drain plug, that's a plus.

It's the 16 bolt 2004r pattern. It's just deeper than the stock pan(according to the comparison pic on buickgn.com). I've dropped it and took a bunch of pics of the valvebody and all the markings I could find. 100% sure filter is a 2004r with the screen on the top. Photobucket is down for maintainence...so a quick list is:
-yellow "AK" painted marking on side of VB
-yellow "165" painted stamp on side of VB
-pink/purple paint on other side of VB
-"BR3" or "3R3" in white stamped paint on side of VB
-"409" in large numbers stamped into the metal of trans body right above a solonoid of some sort

In the top right corner of the picture you can see stamped resevoir for the TH200-4R governor. I agree with TexasT, from the hazy image, the unpolished finish of the sides make it look like a pan someone has customized. You'll definitely know if it has a 700 filter?

Ok, I was worried that this trans wasn't the same type for the GN since it seems someone put in a regular convertor(not D5). Here's the pics: Does this tell weather this is a GN trans or not?

I can't see by the pix as I'm on my phone but you said it was identified by the pink and had a BR3 so the correct valve body. What are the last three casting # on that red round piece(servo) in the side of the trans? Should be 694 for the stock brf one. Does the governor have just one spring or is there one on each weight. One is stock on a brf.

Yes wrong converter with the 7s stamped on it. Easily fixed. Even the rebuilt ones with the d5 on it is no guarantee as no telling what someone put back inside at the mass builder. Your best bet is to get a converter from one of the people who specialise.

Yes, the last three are 694 on the servo. It also says "Lester" on it...as does that round piece in the first pic I posted.
Also, the governor does have just one spring.
