The car can be hot ,180 degrees, and it will idle @ 1300 rpms. It can idle there for 10 or 15 mins and then all of a sudden drop to 600 rpms and chug and die. I have reset the ecm, rebooted the ME-R and tried to set the idle and iac the way Steve Y reccomends. To start the car, you either have to push the throttle down or manually run the throttle blade screw in to get it to start........any suggestions????

iac malfunction?

Could be a bad IAC. Clean air passages in throttle body. Check the shaft to see if it is ok - i.e., it should screw in & out. If it slides in & out when you push it, it's broken. Ensure pintle is attached correctly. If ok so far, try to idle with IAC unplugged. If idle is good, then IAC is working but it's probably getting a bad signal from ecm. :)

I tried a few extra iac's I had laying around but none made a difference...I'll try unplugging it and see what that does....I'm sure the TB is clean and I have eliminated the possibility of a vac leak.....We have a friend in Wisc. that his 85 is doing the exact same thing.

found the problem............my intake pump was dying after about 10 mins, I had the idle down to 1100 rpms and then it dropped to 500 and started chugging, I just happened to look up at the fp gauge and saw 10psi instead of the 42 the car started with........ain't that a bitch......guess I'm going shopping today...
