Smith Center runs winning streak to 77

MINNEAPOLIS — Seventy-seven and counting.
Aaron McNary scored five touchdowns as Smith Center defeated Minneapolis 63-17 in a Class 2-1A playoff game Saturday night.
The Redmen have now won a nation’s-best 77 consecutive games, including 27 in postseason play.
Smith Center (10-0) advances to the quarterfinals and a home game against Meade (10-0), which routed St. Francis 48-6 Saturday.
McNary, a junior, scored on runs of 69, 4, 13, 15 and 65 yards. He scored his first two touchdowns in the second quarter as the Redmen led 21-7 at halftime and 28-7 after three quarters.
McNary added his last three touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Redmen pulled away. Alex Hobelmann had touchdowns runs of 4 and 8 yards for Smith Center.
Keegan McCullick threw touchdown passes of 32 and 54 yards to Greyson George, and Andrew Yoxall kicked a 44-yard field goal for Minneapolis (6-4).
