I was driven my 86 gn today, and while waiting for people to pass, car started to run alittle rough. ser light came on. done code check got code 42, If I replace IGN module will that cure car ?? thanks

Best thing to do is swap it with a known good module before feeding the money pit. If you don't have a TR buddy try to find another member close to you on here.

Lots of us keep spare parts. Coil packs and modules are on the top of the list.

I had the same thing, swapped out the ignition module and coil back and it changed nothing. It could be a bad connection on the harness going into the coil pack.

I thought for sure that was it.. What is this wire or connector people are taking about? I just put engine in drove 350 miles or so,have had stalling problem from start, no code. There is one star bolt missing on coil pack and one of the 3 bolts on back missing that would not have problem no??? Now have code 42 removed connector and put back tight no change..

Make sure the bolt that holds the wiring to the ign module isn't tightened down. It needs to be backed out about 1/8~1/4 turn so the plug won't be in a bind.

Sure enough I made sure it was really tight today I will loosen it, but the code came before I messed with bolt..

I took ign module out and tested bad ,put new one in it now car wont start it backfires and pop,any ideals????

Im sure I put plug wires on same as came off..

You might have the spark plugs wires crossed , 426 on front and 153 on back of coil .

Yes it will, you will have a misfire, wrong firing order

It was bad ign module,the car still has a stall when u give it gas and when u remove your foot from gas it acts like it will die but don't. When your just have foot on gas mabe 1000 rpm it has a small miss,any Ideal on what problem is? I think it has stock chip ,but not sure..

Would a stock chip make it stall? That is what I have in my car..

Its hard to have any kind of faith in an Autozone ignition module. I have used Autozone parts when in a bind but I refuse to waste anymore of my time with their ignition modules.
