I have owned this firebird for probably 7 years. and saw budget mods progress into expensive mods. Culminating in my purchase of a 2300 dollar ford 9" with disk brakes. It doesnt have a stock rear suspension component left. Underhood is just the .030 over 305, anything that is not for propelling the car forward has been removed.
It ran a best of 13.6@103.67 and trapped as high as 104.97 mph with nasty wheel hop with the stock rear. Not very quick but I was building a foundation for a much stronger engine and tranny.

Well, Ive had my t type for awhile now and its 10 times the car the firebird is as far as quality is concerned. The bird has rust, basically no interior left except for a race seat and a passenger seat. No radio, no ac, no blower, not even a windshield washer

Ive kept it around because its nice to have two cars when both are not stock (backups)

Im at a crossroads now, the t5 tranny in the bird crapped out on me, the case is broken, so is the bellhousing.

Ive narrowed down my choices to a junkyard T5 replacement with bellhousing ~ around 100 bux

A t5 with super alloy gears and stock bellhousing stock new clutch ~1100

a G force T5 with lakewood scattershield and centerforce clutch ~ 2300 bux

If i spend the cash to put a junkyard tranny in there it would be with the intent to part the car out eventually. But eventually is not in the forseable future as I have no garage and im being charged daily where the car is sitting with no tranny. In the mean time ill be driving around an obnoxious car with no creature comforts whatsoever and no confidence in because Ill feel like the tranny is gonna die at the worst momemt.

If I get the super alloy T5 Ill be spending 1100 bux on a tranny that will handle around 400 ft lbs which is well under the capability of my rear end. I also wont have much room to upgrade engine wise without fearing for towing fees if I decide to drive it hard

The G force T5 is good to 600 hp and is a solid tranny but if I go this route ill be dumping another 2200 into a car not even worth 2200, the rear and tranny alone will be 4500 dollars and easily over 6k in mods total... and ill still have the 305 that at best is capable of 12s with a few more tweaks

when i stack that up against putting that money into my T type it looks ridiculous to even bother with that other car but I dont want to lose all that money I have into it...

its so hard to decide.. I wont get anything for it if i try to sell it out right. Im in CA and its not emissions legal.

Someone talk some sense into me.. or atleast tell me they will give me 3 grand for this pile of parts i have worth atleast 5

I'd part it out and buy another car that is reliable, gets good gas mileage, has A/C, and is emissions compliant. :)

or you could just put the junkyard t5 in it. and have some fun untill you kill it. btw. ajunkyard t5 here in vegas is $4-600.00. $100.00 is a great price. a t5 is the weak-link so just dont do many 5 grand launch's and it will live for a while.

Pablo,

Cut your loses on your thirdgen. Its a good thing I pulled u away from that TBI crap and lured u into turbo buicks. You would of put another 5 g's into that thing and still be running 13's.

Sell me the 9 inch rear, recoup some losses, and put the money into the T to make it faster.

U know you want a set of GN1 heads!

Liquidate the firebird and buy another beater.... I think i know where i can get u a cheap beater ;)

good luck homey.
