Over the winter season I installed a ball bearing GT6131e along with a Precision stock location intercooler, 60lb Mototrons, RJC power plate and a new TT chip. Even with the stock converter it spools like the stock turbo. It pulls VERY hard even at only 15lbs of boost. A great turbo for the stock converter IMO.

I can't wait to start inching it up over the next few days. Hopefully a solid knock free 18lbs. on 94 octane won't be problem......maybe a tad more if I'm lucky. I'm taking it slow since I'm still pretty new to these cars and I also want to make sure I have no leaks or other issues from my work before I really start flogging on it. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

It's post like these that cause my wallet to get lighter:D I've been looking at precisions dual ball bearing 67. Get alky and let us know what it feels like at 25psi:eek:

Hell man, if you can swing another 5-600$ then buy an alky kit and really grin! When my last motorcycle sells I will have a PAC alky kit on it's way!

Also if you dont mind me asking, how hard was the BB turbo install(running the lines and such)? I really like the stock converter, and Im not even fond of upping it much past 2800 since I drive this car daily, and it sounds like the 6131bb is the hottest turbo you can go with without a 3000+ stall... the thing is, I dont know a damn thing about BB turbos much less regular turbos.

Good luck!

It was no problem to hook up. I got the water line kit when I ordered it so it was pretty much just a straight turbo swap. I want to eliminate most of the coolant hose that I used so when I get time I am going to bend up some hard lines so it looks like a cleaner install. I have everything I need to make a new turbo feed line with an inline filter but that is also something that won't get done until I have everything else sorted out.

I'm sure an alky kit is in my future but I want to get it tuned right without it first. That way I'll get the most out of it when it goes on. I'm curious to see how much boost I can get with zero knock on 94 octane.

So much for my last post. I adjusted the boost to 19lbs. and took it for a spin. Just a little knock but the boost spiked to 23lbs. briefly. No harm done cause I got out of it quickly BUT so much for tweaking and leaving it at 18lbs.........an alky kit is due here Tuesday (5/8). The turbo screams at higher boost and the power, even briefly, was shocking. I'm officially hooked. If the weather holds I'll get it to the track on Wednesday for a proper evaluation.

Wish list...and THIRD job!!!!!

Great Post......just what we have been looking to do :D , here at school to #1 project GN.
We put a TA-49 with some 009's injector and Alky kit and a TT chip on #2 project GN and was looking at a TE-44(cheaper  ) for #1 project GN with some 60's injectors BUT we would REALLY like to get the GT6131e  .
Now, all I need to do is get a THIRD job to get new TOYS and MODs.

any idea on what you are hoping for? (et/mph?)

i putting togather a very similar setup not with all the same parts but with maft pro being the only difference so far.

If you could post up some pix of the install and hard lines that would be cool and helpful.

let us know how it goes.

I'd hope to break into to the 11's but realistically on street tires I'd be happy just trapping at a good MPH. Shooting for 24lbs. of boost. So 115-117 would make me happy for now. It depends on how much tinkering I can get in before I go. Not really sure what to expect.......again, I'm a Ford FE guy so these turbo 6's are a completely different animal. The learning curve is steep but I'm getting there.

I haven't done the coolant hard lines or filter setup yet so the install isn't that exciting but I'll take some pics later.

Better use some fresh drag radials!

Hey ROC87 if you decide to lighten your wallet, what will you want for your 61? So I can lighten the wife's purse!

The alky is in and working great! I didn't get it all wired and fired up until today so I didn't make it to the track last night....unfortunately with my upcoming work schedule I probably won't make it for another few weeks. While I was installing the kit I took some extra time to clean up some gauge wiring and got the under dash area straightened up some as well.

I'm at 24lbs. with zero knock on 94 octane/alky. Certainly feels FAST but won't know for sure until I have it at the track. I haven't messed with the timing or fuel in my chip yet either. It's pulling strong with no misses/bogs and without some track numbers to go by I don't think I'll help much adjusting things by the "seat-o-the-pants" meter.

Just a little non-update (for the moment). I'm heading to the track tomorrow night. 94 octane/alky 24lbs. of boost and I tweaked the timing to 23/21....still no knock. Bumping the timing up from 20/18 smoothed the acceleration out but I still have a slight hiccup (I believe) when the alky comes on strong. I'm still running the non-alky TT chip so I may have to pull some fuel (or tweak the alky down some more) but I'd rather run a little rich until I get some runs down the track.

I'm getting more used to it but it's still a little frightening to hear this thing scream at this boost level.....it should be real entertaining to hear it for 1/4 mile. I'll try to get a video as well.

Man Im really looking forward to your runs... you have basically the setup I will have by this time next year

Thanks for the luck and don't get your hopes up too much. My first time out with the new setup AND I'll be on street tires. Like I said before I'm more interested in my trap speed than my time. I'm also not as agressive as some and am being somewhat conservative with my tune so I won't be getting the max out of it. I'd rather leave some on the table vs. blowing a head gasket (or worse) and I'm still in my early learning stages as far as this new fangled turbo thing is concerned.

Bro,

Give me 114MPH and I will be happy...
Actually I would be happy if you got home in one piece and had a good time.

My "goal" is 115 MPH. Anything less (IMO) just means that I have more work to do.....which is fine as well.

A bunch of my buddies are going so I'll have a good time regardless. Getting home in one piece will make me happy as well.....if my car isn't on a flatbed or in a scrap yard when it's over and I'll be downright thrilled.
