I have pretty much the same combination you have. I did get a TT alky chip though. I benifitted from some 28" tire drag radials as well. Good luck with your run.

My TTA at 24lbs with a GT32 hits 114-115 consistenly. I am hoping the 6131 does a little better than that. I have been kicking aroung the idea of getting a 6131 DBB. Good luck.

Hey do you have the dualBB version? If so are you running the stock D5? You two basically have the setup I want to have when It's all said and done. What wheels/tires are you runing(what wheel backspacing) because Im drag tire shopping right now. Also what boost are you running at?

My goal is to have a LOW 12 second car on street tires and mid-high 11s on DRs... shooting for the 115-117mph range. Im at a high 12s car right now on street tires @19lbs with some race gas, but Im ordering alky and new drag radials as well. My time in my sig was with DRs on pump gas with a 1.83 60ft...

Also how streetable is your current setup? My car will be a street machine.

Your GT3255 should be fine for those goals. Look in my sig at TTA 259. Same turbo as you. Very little done to this car besides the turbo. My car runs 11.80-11.90s all day at 24lbs on DRs. 1.7X 60ft to do it. It could go 11.60-11.70s if I could get a low 1.60 60'.

I think my turbo will be the last thing I upgrade. It is supposed to spport 520 HP so I think I will be OK with it, but we will see. I like the my turbo, and I think I will like it even more when I get the headers fixed!

I have the regular version. I bought it used (waste of money) and sent it to be checked. It was screwed up so I had it rebuilt. I could have just bought it new (which if I ever buy a turbo again it will be) so I won't have to deal with that crap. I'm running the stock D5 unlocked. Boost Commander has a feature that allows spool-up which I have set up to allow very fast spool. It's very streetable. No real lag, feels fine. No high stall heat in the trans. Slowly I raised the boost level (easy with BC) and now run about 25lbs. Without the spool feature of the BC it was laggy. I think though one of those RJC boost controlers would work fine. It has to have drag radials on for any traction on the street. Put those on long before the turbo upgrade. Just wasn't worth it to use street tires (I ran in the mid 12s when I made that decision). I have BFGoodrich 235/60s in the stock T rims. At the track I changed to 275/60s BF Goodrich on stock T rims that put me in the 11s with a 1.7 60'. I prefer the look (height) of the 235s for the street for me. I go to the track 2 or 3 times a year so my car is definately more of street car.
The BB would probably spool just fine with a D5. I believe they have a direct fit coolant line now.

Just got back from the track. The first few runs were a tad disappointing to say the least (high 13's at 99MPH). The car felt fine but obviously something was wrong. One of my buddies was there and after some checking he found that the TPS was out of wack (it was spot on last time I checked it?????) so after dialing it in my times dropped some and the MPH got better. He had some diagnostic computer that he hooked up for a run and found that I wasn't keeping it completely floored the entire run (rookie). I actually felt the problem on my 3rd run and it was confirmed by the recorded data. I was also changing my launch technique every run and was improving. My best of only four runs was....

R/T - 0.89
60ft.- 2.15
1/8 - 8.31@90.28
1/4 - 12.66@111.51

I was hoping for a little better MPH but considering the lack of runs I'm pleased for the first time out with the new combo. With a few more passes I think I could have gotten a better launch and I would have also tried locking the converter to see if that helped at all. With real street tires, 24lbs of boost and 23/21 timing......zero knock. I would also like to try bumping the timing a little more.

One other thing is that I have some sort of hiccup consistently at about mid track. I may have to trim back on the alcohol a tad or tweak the fueling a little but I won't know until I can get a day at the track with more than a handful of passes. I do feel that I ran a relatively safe tune to start so I think with some tweaking I'll reach my goals.

The highlight of the night was my last race. I was lined up with a newish Z06 (vanity plate was something like "2FAST4U") that I figured would trounce me (my previous best was a 13.1). He ran a 12.72@111.56. Apparently the announcer commented that "that vette ain't gonna catch that Buick" at about 1/2 track. That alone made the whole night worth it.

That's great on street tires! I couldn't even get in the 12's on my BFGs. Some decent 60 foots and you should be in the low 12's!

Get some drag radial's, RR air bag, lock the converter and hello 11's. Great job and your car is responding well.

That is good a first time out. It takes a little time to get it dialed in anyway. Good job.

With a good 60ft in the 1.6-1.7 range, you should easily be in the high 11s. :) You are making good power now, so I'd be careful about adding timing, taking out fuel, etc without some good feedback data. You probably won't get much more out of it by adding more timing, and its definitely more risky. I've seen diminishing returns with alky by running higher timing than 23/21. I went up to 28/25 timing and didn't see any difference in the timeslips so I now I leave it at 23/21. With the higher timing I did see lower EGTs though, but they weren't that high to begin with.

Sounds like your buddy had Directscan or something similar hooked up for your run. I would look through the data recording to make sure your O2s look steady through the run. O2 data is very useful to see trends after you get a good baseline. Its also good to temporarily hook up a fuel pressure gauge that you can see during a run to verify thats its nice and steady. If everything looks good, I would throw on some drag radials (Mickey Thompsons) and shoot for some high 11s. I usually take fuel out of first gear in TT chips to help get out of the hole. Hopefully you can hook and have a good 60ft, or you might have to upgrade some suspension parts before you start getting real good 60fts on drag radials. Some people hook with hardly any upgrades though.

Good first time out with the new turbo. I had kind of the same experience with mine. Not much gain. Then I went back and rechecked everything. Found a leak at the turbo and a my TPS was off too. After correcting those issues and driving the car some more to see how it responded, I went back to run again. Made a big difference and I'm happy with my mods now. Forget regular radials, you need a good drag radial for sure.

I agree with Murphster on taking fuel out of first gear with a TT chip. I swapped in my Max effort chip from the TT chip on my TTA and the low end in first was noticably better. I think the TT chip is a little heavy on the fuel in 1st gear.

I am getting a kick out if this thread b/c I just bought a 61bb turbo at BG and I can't wait to get it put in. I hope that mine does what everyone says it can do with a stock converter. If not I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a 3200 stall.

Please buy a wideband O2 and take the guess work out of where your fuel/air ratio is.

Did you get a Turbonetics 61bb? Did you get the water cooled center section? I just got my 61bb about 2 months ago, I've just got it on, but my fuel system took a dump on me and I suspect my stock ECM is bad already. I haven't got to really get it dialed in and I was getting way too much fuel and it was killing it.
I'm using a cartech addtional reg and it's acting weird, I saw almost 100lbs of fuel at about 13lbs of boost the first time out:eek: Pulled it back in a tinkered a bit got it to 18lbs of boost and 59lbs of fuel at WOT.
It doesn't seem to build boost as fast as the TE44, but at 18lbs of boost it had no knock and the nose was in the air blowin the Nittos off. Alcy turned off too!, 2800 stall con. Spools good, I'll no more after I get the fuel curve dialed in better, I had to drop everything and get back to Nashville in the middle of the night. I hate work, it seems to screw up good times, but I guess I'll stay cause I bought too many parts this Spring:D Got some install picks and the water line install too at:

The contraption my buddy had looked like some sort of dealer scanner and from my recorded run my O2 numbers were great so there's no knock activity at all.....my scanmaster showed none on my other runs either. My only reason for tinkering with the tune a little more is to see if I trim some fuel or the alky a tad then maybe I'll lose the hiccup I'm getting. My 02 numbers are high enough that I shouldn't have any issue pulling things back a little. I'll heed the advice on timing and leave it where it's at. Just a little tune nudging and I should be all set. I'm starting to grasp how this car likes to be launched too so I'm pretty confident in a street tire sub 12.5@112+ which reaches my initial goal for my combo....anything better is icing.

My next run should be within the next few weeks......Nowalk perhaps. I'll try locking the converter and running some drag radials also. One other thing is that I have to get off my rump and throw my new valve springs in.

BTW....I have NO issues with the BB GT6131E spooling on the stock converter.

Thanks for all the encouragements, comments and tips....very helpful!

Here we go again......

Went to the track tonight and my best run was.....

60 ft. ---- 2.06
1/8 ---- 8.21@90.85
1/4 ---- 12.45@115.26

So I finally reached my MPH goal. Again, I was on regular street tires so that explains the 60 ft. time. ;) It was in the upper 80's when I arrived at the track so my early runs were about like my last time out (high/mid 12's at 112-113MPH). I got six runs and was trying different combinations of locking the converter, shifting manually or leaving in "D" and was trying to find the sweet spot RPM to launch at. This was my best run at about 9:30 when it cooled off and was my 2nd last (converter locked/let the tranny do the shifting and just a touch of wheelspin on launch). I didn't worry so much about my reaction time....I just foot braked and gave it gas until it would start to push through the lights and let it rip. I recently replaced my valve springs and my "hiccup" at mid track is gone.

I managed 1.85 60 ft. on my last run but I broke traction when I hit 2nd so I had to lift and killed the run. With it being a tad cooler I'm sure this would have been my best but that's how it goes. This will be my last trip to the track until we get a cool spell. I'm finally somewhat content.

hey incubus, what part of Cleveland are you from? I live in by Kamms Corners.......I don't have a GN (still lookin)yet but would love to check yours out - you have the pretty close to the combo that I am looking to get into after I get ahold of one of these babies.
