Right now i have 36's..i would like to know what is the highest injector that i could go without have to redo the computer. Is 55's right? But my te-44 is going and i was looking into getting a turbo somewhere around the PTE-52 but my injectors can't support it. If anyone if looking for a new set of Delphi's 36lb. injectors with about 9,000 miles on them.

I am trying to meet my goal of getting my 86 GN into the 11's or even very very high 10's happily. Will this turbo do that safely or should i go differently?

thanks in advance

Scott

the highest injectors you can go to w/o changing the ECM is the MSD 50 lb. injectors. 55 lbs. are low impedance and that why they need a reprogrammed ECM. i believe the te-44 is good to the high 10's tho. my neighbor is running 11.6 w/alky, a te-44 and 22 psi. w/his t-type. thats before he gets his torque converter in so i think he should hit low 11's after. is your turbo going bad or you just want a bigger one? i think a lot of people had trouble w/the pt-51's blowing turbine wheels a while back but i am not sure about the rest of the 50 series PTE turbos.

Do the ecm mode, and go 55s.
Why paint yourself into a corner?.
The large injectors are much more forgiving to tune.

How good at tuning are you?.
There is no easy way to run that fast.

You need to also figure out your tuning strategy. T+, or ME. Both have their weak and strong points that you'll have to deside on.

My turbo came with the car when i bought last year, and i know the car was raced from the mods that were done and back then it had some movement on the shaft. And the car smokes alittle now and when the turbo goes higher in the boost it just doesn't do much. The best time i have done was a 13.5. The can get off the line with out any problems. But once it hits half track the car is finished. So i was thinking about going bigger and getting different injectors to support the horsepower.

When the car was dynoed it had only 216rwhp and the torq. was 456. So i am trying to get the hp higher to keep the car moving down the track.

Tuning is where i need all the help i can get. No one could give me straight answers on how i can go about doing this. All i have learned from the many people i have talked to was keep the o2s around 820 or so..and it they are lower give more fuel pressure or too high give more boost.

So if you have any advice they will be taken greatly and thankfully.

Thanks
scott

216rwhp is a major issue.

Post the rest of the combo.

I saw a completely stock car dyno. with much higher numbers on the horsepower side.

Perhaps a cat. is on the car or exhaust restriction?

My 86 GN Combo consists of:

Block bored .030 over, 36lb injectors, test pipe w/dump, te-44, Terry Houston Downpipe, Stock heads, 2800 stall converter

I looked at my print outs and it was 215 through the full exhaust, and 264 open dump. Still i think that car should of had more. Because the guy who did had a print out of a stock 87 GN pulling better number numbers with nothing done eccept a K&N.

Maybe the exhaust held the car back alittle but everytime the car was raced it was with the dump open and the best was a 13.5

My 60' times are very consistant between a best of 1.6-1.8, and that is leaving the line with about 2-4 lbs. but after that the car if done turbo still holds the boost and the mph keep climbing but it stops pulling. Everybit of information will help.

Thanks again

Scott

you pulled a 1.6 60' time at 2-4 lbs of boost? (or even a 1.8)

hmmmmmmmmm

are you sure?

with 216 rear wheel hp?

I'll buy a 2.6

BS gets you nowhere on this BB

Yea, i have the timeslips to prove it. I can't understand what happens to the car. Everyone i talk to can't help me with this problem. If i could hookup the car gets off the line fast but just can't finish.
I have a Poston 93 octane chip for the car, and the injectors are still basicly new. I paid 270 for injectors, and 95 for the chip. Chip works good no problems. I will sell the chip and injectors for 250. E-mail me and we could talk. Slipknot33x@aol.com

State of tune

What scan tool? fuel pump? boost? fuel press? do you have the cat on car? do you know how much knock & when? What cam? Was it degreed? Stock intercooler? Is it clean? All needed info to help.

I am currently using Scan Master 2. It is a upgraded fuel pump and hot wired but don't know what one came with car when bought. 42 line off. Cat was taken off and replaced with a 3in. cutout. Most knock is 4-5 degrees about when it shifts or so. But is different everytime. Stock cam, stock intercooler, I need to clean it since the turbo started to leak oil.

Hope this helps

Scott, what condition are the valve springs in? Original? With 60ft. times like that, something is definitely going on, & it's not good.

If the car was detonating & pulling timing, that would be one thing, but...?

When i bought the car in June of last year the motor was already blown..So i bought a motor already built with it bored .030 over. Everything is new except the upper and lower intake that came from the old motor. I have to say everything has about 10,000 miles on them.
When i talked to someone they thought that my gears where changed cuz of those 60 foot times..But i checked it and the stock ones are still there.
When i change my turbo i hope that it was the only problem, but i don't see why it has all the power off the line but nothing after it. Thanks for the help

Scott

Is it the original engine (87 block)? What cam is in it? Did someone rebuild it that knew about turbov6's? Did they degree the cam? Could be valve springs but I don't think thats the whole problem. Has the car always been like this or is it something that just started? Right now you have enough injector # for 432 HP, so it's something else.

I bought the block from Dynotech. Got it from there because he is in my town and he is pretty well know. They know what they are doing and it was the only place i knew of because when i bought this car it was the first time i had a turboed car and being GN.

I don't know of the cam but when i asked the guy who is always there he said he blieves it is stock but he doesn't know because when they get the motors they already have the cam in them.
Since the first time i raced the car it ran like this, and everytime i raced it i tryed to figure out what was wrong. First time i raced the car it did a 14.9, on 15lbs. of boost, and know i got it down to a 13.5. Since i learned how to launch and got better at timing the lights. But everyone i tell my problem to they have no clue whats wrong. So hopefully you guys can help since you deal with theses cars everyday.

Thanks for the help so far

Scott

DYNOTECH???

Spoolin, you want to read the other posts on the engine teardown of an engine from DT.. Kinda scary!!! From what I see in that post the cam in your engine may be in wrong or a host of other stuff too:(

If I were you, I'd hold off a new turbo, injectors, etc. until you find out the real problem with your car. Repair the TE44, instead of upgrading it and keep the 36# injectors. Buy a better scan tool like turbolink or direct scan (or borrow one) so you can see frame by frame what is happening to your car. Your low mph/slow ET suggests big problems somewhere. You need to solve that before you buy a bunch of mods.

A TE44 and 36# injectors will be fine for your goals of High 11's. A larger turbo, injectors, etc. will cost more, but won't really make your goal easier to obtain.

After Fred Vetter protested my seats (dealer installed flofits) at B@B '99, I recommend people stay well clear of dynotech :)

I wish i knew that before i purchased my car. Because i am only 17 when it was bought and i love this car but i can't really figure it out since i have no method of tuning this beast.

I was thinking of changing my cam. if i was too what would all you recommend of me putting in it for a street car. And what else will i have to change.

Thanks for the info

Scott

I read that post of the engine teardown, and i was wondering if any1 knows who built that motor for Dynotech.

Thanks
