Reciently grenaded my block. My set up is/was a 67mm 60#inj, 212 cam, minor head work. 70 mm throttle body. 10.5 lock jp converter...basicly jjst want to imput on doing another 109 block or 4.1? I want to spend around 3 for a short block/rotating assembly. Assuming my heads and cam are good... hope not too vague.

Do the 4.1 with 2 billet center main caps and bump the compression up to 8.5 to 9.0 go witha 218/218 or 215/220 cam and your car will trap at 130 plus mph. Don't worry about the stock crank just don't detonate too hard... Detonation breaks forged parts and splits blocks ... Remember it's all in the tune .make sure you have enough fule and octane . Alchy only cools the charge but does not increase the octane that's why you can't run as much timing with the alchy as you can run with the race gas ..so with that in mind watch your tune carefully .

You are a bit vague, are you wanting recommendations on the 3.8 vs the 4.1, or suggestions on what's best bang for the buck? Is the 3, referance to 300 or 3k? Are you doing the work or looking to have it done by a machine shop?

Thanks for replying. Im seeing now that to build the 4.1 its going to cost alot more than 3k. But i plan on doing the r and r and everything but machine work. Possibly have the short block assembled.

If this is not your dailey driver, take some time to post in the "parts wanted" section for a bare or short block(known good), 3.8/4.1. Some of the guys are moving to the ls-x
motors and have no need for the buick stuff and will have items up for sale. Personally I would go for the 4.1 build as mentioned by 007gn for a street car. Just don't rush in to it if you can afford to wait on your decission.
