36" give or take. Too close will burn it up. It will show a tad leaner the further down stream you go.
distant wont affect the reading , if the exhaust isnt leaking having it in the tailpipe will read just as well as near the turbo , you just need to keep the sensor far enough upstream away from an opening like the end of tailpipe or a dump , if you run a dump try to keep sensor a foot upstream from the dump cap and with the cheap bosch sensors, far enough from the turbo so it doesnt overheat .

now with good sensors like the NGK used with FAST/ XFI , they can tolerate the heat you want the sensor closer to turbo (about 12") so that the sensor can see changes the ecu makes quickly so it doesnt chase its tail correcting

on a std narrow O2 sensor needs 600DF to react and generate signal
with narrow band heat and pressure changes the readings and down stream might be to cool to be active

I think the PLX uses a different type of 02 sensor? Not sure but I thought I read that somewhere?

plx and others use the cheaper bosch sensor and that sensor does not work long in the heat of a turbo
it needs to be where Turbodave posted it , on the last bend of the downpipe

They didn't just pick a random dimension when the instructions were written......

Exactly... There is some thermal dynamics involved.
The more pipes that are connected, the more leaks your gonna have. Just like NOT tying anything else to the MAP sensor.
