Just installed new weather strips around the doors. Now the doors are much harder to close. Will these settle in over time? These are after market weather strips which are much thicker than stock. I know I know. Factory fits best. :o What would I adjust to compensate for the thickness of the rubber.

Thanks

i can't tell you about the aftermarket stuff but when i put new gm ones in mine it was hard to shut. well i wouldn't say hard but it was a slam like it use to me. give it a few weeks and you won't even notice it anymore. mine settled in some but they are still tight and seal perfect

I just bought new roof rail weatherstripping from gm and also e-bay. The new stuff from gm appears to be the same quality as the after market minus the metal in the corners? The old but new stuff i got from ebay seems to be very soft like the original stuff on the car! Different packaging (different vendor?) Also the date on the package was 2005 from dealer so I guess their not making anymore. The new weatherstripping seems to be little stif.

IIRC --Loosen the two bolts inside the pocket and pull the vertical track a little inwards to tilt the window top out.
Mark the original spot so you can go back :)

I replaced mine with GM pieces. Also very hard to close at first. Give it a few weeks with the doors closed. If they are still tight in a few weeks, then worry about an adjustment. IMO.

i like it tight!!!!!!,just don't let someont put their "butt" against your door to shut it!!!!(even if it is a nice butt)

I put Metro door weatherstrips in my '87 Grand National last month. Finally.....I bought them about four years ago. They fit perfect...can you believe that? The doors shut with a solid "thunk" like a well sealed Cadillac. Hard to shut at first, but as of today, they shut just fine. I used 3mm black weatherstrip adhesive in the front of the door where the weatherstrip starts, down to the bottom and also the rear part of the door up to where the strip ends. Just the sides of the door, not the bottom. Came out real nice....for once my GN did "fight me" when I was working on it. But anyway, the weatherstrip will set in time. It's finally nice to have a solid closing door with no rattles. I did a little adjusting of the window anitrattle brackets and putting some fuzzy stuff on them from another part I got from the boneyard. Now the window seals nice and tight, no rattles. First time in 8 years the door shuts with no annoying rattles.

It's tempting...I may let Nicole Kidman use her butt, maybe, but don't tell my wife.

Interesting- I put the GM ones on about 2 months ago, I'm not finding they compressed much at all and unfortunately I adjusted everything assuming they would...
