We're re-installing the transmission and converter in Kristi's T and we've encountered some unexpected difficulty mounting the converter on the input shaft. We've done this job a number of times before but this time we have a question...

The converter appears to seat nicely on the shaft, engaging the pump as expected. Once installed, it spins freely.
However, if we attempt to push the converter further onto the shaft, it moves inward and makes a grinding sound when we spin it. Does this mean that the converter is not correctly seated to begin with, or is this normal behavior when the converter is pushed in all the way?

We appreciate any help...We came up from the garage to make this post.

Thanks,
Rick & Kristi

We figured out what the grinding noise is - the converter is rubbing on the front of the pump on the tranny.

If the converter seats this far, can we assume this is installed correctly?

Thanks again,

Kristi & Rick

yeah once the converter bolts are in, it should pull it back towards the flywheel and it will clear. You are definitely in far enough. Good luck with it
