i am going to be doing my head gaskets and i remember i had trouble with the intake manifold bathtub style gasket install. does this style of gasket have to be used? where can i get a good replacement. I have seen metal ones and ones of other material. i want it to be as easy as possible. last time i had a hard time getting the gasket on there and getting all the bolts to line up...i got it on but it took a while and should have gone a lot smoother. i dont want that problem this time. any tips are appreciated.

fel-pro 1200

I beleive they're the fel-pro 1200's. sold by summit and jegs. they are a thicker gasket. the valley-pan gasket is probly the more desired because it helps to keep the oil from going up the pcv valve and causing problems. W/ the v-pan gasket, don't forget to put the gasket in place before trying to set the manifold. the four stamped indentations will catch under the heads to hold the gasket in place. there's a lot of discussions on whether to use a lot of rtv/sealers, etc.
it seems to be personal experience is the way everyone goes. Too much will squash out into the intake runners and cause unwanted turbulence.
Hope this helps. :)

I am about to install an intake manifold gasket and it does look like a pain, So you are saying the valley pan gasket(is that the sheet metal one-piece?) is a better gasket for my manifold, just a bit more of a pain to install?I believe the valley pan is the one I got that I bought from Poston's, I just never put in gasket like that before and the previous owner I guess had felpro 1200 in there(seperated paper gaskets on each side of the manifold) Thanks for any pointers.

I have installed several intake gaskets and I prefer the FelPro ms96033. It is the blue fiber gasket. As deadlois said, it has slits in the sides just below the intake ports, where it actually "clicks" into place and stays put. Some guys use rtv instead of the front and rear rubber pieces that come with the gasket. I have always used the front and rear rubber pieces and put a glob of rtv in each corner wear the rubber and the fiber gaskets meet. If you use the FelPro, you will not have fitment problems. Just line it up and gently push it down. The slits in the gasket will snap in place. :)
