Evertime I put a new turbo on I hate doing the return line. I usually smudge the RTV and I never feel good about putting it on. I always worry about leaks. I was wondering if anybody ever took the return line out of the block to install the drain line on the turbo? I thought taking the drain line off might be another option.

i put studs on the turbo and rtv the gasket to the turbo. i also connect the return before i tighten the turbo to header bolts.

Good idea. Now that I read this I have seen you post this before. I will try this. In the past I would pull the line up and put the drain line on first and then position the turbo in place.

Thanks Doc

Exactly what I do. I don't use RTV though. I just use the little gasket that is on there. I've reused it 4 times now and no leaks. I am under the impression that the return line is not a high pressure line. Maybe I am wrong?

No I think you are right. There is not a lot of pressure there. When I had leaks before I think it was from the bolts backing out. Looking forward to using studs. :)

I'm positive the studs will take care of your problem. Much easier to install as well.

For sure. The TTA is a little tighter to do the drain bolts than the GN is. So I am looking forward to using the studs.

I put the turbo on last night. The studs worked great. The turbo was in place in about 2 minutes.

But thanks for the idea.
