Since the 87 is now considered an Antique or Classic. What is the best insurance company to deal with...in terms of policy price in FL?

Nick

I dont think a car is considered an Antique or classic until its 25 years old.
At least not here in Illinois.

Ok so what do you get for insurance then? Because KBB says the car is worth 16k, but my insurance company, GEICO says more like 500-1k.

Who do you use?

Nick

I called Grundy International for mine. They say they will insure it for MY stated value (mine's not so nice, $10K) for $174/year. This will include collision, comprehensive, and liability. There are limitation of use, mainly can't drive it to work. No annual mileage limit or time of day limits. All they asked for was 2 pics from both sides of the car. I haven't followed through yet, but I feel they are legit. West Virginia has some of the highest insurance rates in the US, $174 is a great deal if they'll back it up.

The rest of my vehicles are with Erie, by far the least expensive national insurer. However, to insure the GN for comp/col/liab. I would have to get an approved appraisal. Not sure about their limitations. And they tend to be VERY conservative ($$$) when it comes to "high risk" vehicles. Just for liability on the GN they quoted me $375/yr, I think.

I use Grundy Worldwide as well. For my T and my '70 Chevelle, with a valuation of 25k per ride , it runs me 750 a year, not bad considering this craphole here has some of the highest rates in the country ( WV?). They have been insuring nice rides for quite some time, do a google search and see what comes up, they are based in Horsham Pa.

Geico told me the same crap. Even after they stated what the NADA values was. They do however have a collector car branch. State farms was much cheaper however for me.

I got mine through rallyinsurance.com. Very inexpensive but there are restrictions. 6000 miles a year, never left unattended except at car shows and can be driven for pleasure-no work-no errands. There is no deductible either. I hit a deer two weeks after I got the insurance and they covered everythig with original parts. Good luck. Brad

I have full coverage insurance on my car insured for Kelly Blue Book value up to 25k and I pay $38 for full coverage, a month. That's with a $500 deductible from State Farm in Missouri..........

Like was stated above KBB value is nothing on these cars. You need to go to a specialty insurance underwriter or you will get nothing for your car if something happens to it.

I have two policies on my 84GN. I use my local insurance agency to cover the liability and Haggerty for "agreed upon value" of $30,000. The Haggerty liability coverage is VERY LOW so don't depend on that to protect your personal assets if someone is hurt in an accident.

In Illinois - State Farm classic /antique car insurance, Full coverage, all year round coverage, 25K value, limitations on driving but I don't remember if there was a limitation on miles, all for $165 a year. An excellent insurance company.

At least in N.Y. State, State Farm issues 6 month policies. I have $28,000 coverage w/$50 comp. ded., and $100 coll. ded. for $251, or $502 per year. No accidents, or points for 30 years. Brian

American collectors in NJ insured me for something like $250 with a 5000 mile restriction. 100-300 with 3 tows up to $250 each. Policy also includes 5 gal gas delivery, battery, lockout. All this with no deductible

Increasing liability with Hagerty from the minimum to the maximum was only $16 more a year for me in California. I think Hagerty to defaults to the lowest coverage when applying online. Call them and ask how much more to get the coverage you need. This pertains to a 911 Porsche I owned, not my GN.

You are insured twice you are getting bent over.

Went to Grundy, got insured for 18k for $284.82 a year with 6k allowed. Not too bad.

Been considering AARP.
Problem at this time - AARP won't issue new homeowners insurance in Florida!
AARP is much more reasonable price than Nationwide.

Allstate, State Farm, and other similar insurers leave much doubt in my mind. Unless you have an "agreed value" policy, you will not get near what your car is worth if it is declared a complete loss.

Terms like Stated Value, Declared Value, Replacement Value, are deceptive and leave you thinking your car is insured for much more than it actually is. All these leave placement of value in the hands of your insurance adjuster. What your agent tells you, might not be real world. I would get something in writing that would guarantee a price if I lost my car.

If anyone has a "collector car", that was satisfied by one of these common insurers for a complete loss accident, I would like to hear some testimonials.

Hagerty, Sneed, Grundy, and others stay in business insuring classics because the rest of those common carriers fall far short in coverage. These classic insurers are pretty stringent on mileage and usage. They aren't for daily drivers and that's why they are so affordable. You must prove you have other transportation for daily use for each driver in the household.
