Been awhile since I did an a 87 GN intake gasket so I have a quick question. Do you apply a thin coat of RTV to the front and back side of the stock "steel" intake gasket or just put on dry? I think I recall applying RTV around the water ports only. Correct me if I am wrong though.. By the way they are stock heads and intake. However I do remember using the rubber strips and dabbing the the corners with some RTV. A brief refresher is needed if anyone can help. Thanks!!

I usually do not use silicone on the intake gasket. I do however spray it with copper coat from the spray can just incase there are some imperfections. I clean everything with acetone or laquer thinner so it is dry flat and free of any impurities. I then take black O2 sensor save RTV and place a bead of it on the front and back of the block replacing the rubber strips, making sure I get into the corners. I let this set about and hour or so. I then carefully set the intake on and install bolts hand tight. I then let it set about another hour and then torque it all to spec. So far this way has never leaked on me yet.

I use Black RTV(thin smear) around the water ports(boths sides) and Permatex(red stuff) brush tack around intake ports(boths sides)...rubber strips with RTV at the ends...
