My intake manifold has two broken bolt holes where the upper plenum attaches. I've been searching for a new one but the only one I can find that actually fits is the Champion ported intake for $1,300 but all sellers state that my GOOD core must be sent in first before they will even send one. Are there any stock ones still available with no core needed?

You can try NATS?
Aren’t there places that repair them? Somebody here would know that. Are you sure yours can’t be repaired? Sure it’s considered “not good” by guys that want core?
Good luck.

One of the bolt holes that broke is the internal one in the back. I'm not sure if I would trust any weld job on that one. If it broke loose, bye bye engine.

Lemme see what I can dig up. I think I have one I bought off a board memeber in my stash.

I have a complete stock manifold, plenum, and throttle body. I'm happy to send pics via PM if you want

I won't unpack them until I know you are seriously interested in purchacing the whole kit and kaboodle.

I will not separate them.

Seems I have the only part(s) in our galaxy that you want, at this point. That's just a fact.

PM me, let's talk.

Honestly, I'm not sure I want to let go of this packge, but a Buick Brother in need, is just that.

Many folks here know me, I don't jack people around.

Turbo2, I know this is an older post, do you still have the intake with the broken bolts? If so, would you be willing to sell it? Thanks.

I'm still using it. I had to setup a clamping device to be able to keep using it. No way am I spending the ridiculous amount to replace it when just about every other engine made you can replace it for next to nothing.

Haha, I hear that.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Have a nice day.

I wouldn't be afraid of having it repaired if I'm visualizing the broken area correctly.

If you were to send your core in they machine out the EGR tower and tig weld on the inside anyway

Too much money to spend right now. I took it out for a ride late Fall and the #5 cylinder stopped firing. I have to look into that come Springtime before anything else.

Im glade to see you steal have your spear..Some people think were nuts for holding on to this old junk and think we are holding out for to much money. I have had good experience with you and know you was not holding someone hostage for a Buick intake that is not easy to find. Maybe OP will find a nice cheap LS to fix his intake woss

It's simple economics. Buying used is a good way to end up with the exact same problem which is something I want to avoid. I could buy used, install my upper plenum, and then find that those bolt holes have all stripped out, or broken off in a short amount of time and now I would be stuck with 2 junk intakes. Just the fact that it seems there is no such thing as a NEW intake, just old, refurbished ones that are ported out with a huge price tag is ridiculous. When I priced out a Champion intake the price itself was ridiculous, then when I took a look at their fine print saying that my intake has to be perfect, or they are going to charge me for all repairs makes it more expensive again. And yes, that is exactly why people ditch these and put an LS in them. I understand that for many of you it's just as simple as "Oh look, there is a scratch on one of my engine bolts, quick replace the whole engine and transmission with new ones, and you might as well throw in a $20,000 paint job as well". No such luck for me, I have to do it right the first time.

There is a lot of work that goes into a ported stock intake, money well spent, if you have champion heads and a good intake to send its worth every penny. And to find a good OE is hard to find. If your cylinder heads are not ported a ported Champion is just throwing money away. Owing a 86 GN is a real privilege not a lot belt. You won't find a new intake and most of use holding on to parts have good parts and dont often sale but do sale to help a fellow Buick guy out.
I have 3 intakes 2 very repairable and 1 very nice almost new condition like the one in the post. None are for sale because the 2 are not perfect and 1 is.
Sorry for my snotty post above sometime I don't think before I push Post. Good luck finding a good one at what you fell is a fear price. And use stud and nut with a torque wrench to avoid stripping or breaking your replacement

I already had switched over to studs and torqued to spec. Within a month the upper plenum was leaking again and when I took it apart 2 more bolt holes had stripped out and the aluminum was like powder. I then drilled out all the bolt holes and put in stainless steel inserts, put in brand new studs, and torqued everything to spec. Within weeks the upper plenum was leaking again and when I took it apart the bulged area that houses the bolt hole for the passenger side rear was missing, and worse yet the one that is on the inside rear was ready to break off into the engine but luckily the stainless steel insert was holding it there. Again, all of the aluminum was like powder that I could brush off. If this is what the aluminum these were made from look like after 39 years, then any used one is a roll of the dice.
