Ok yes it all been said on threads and to be honest I searched them all day long and cant seam to find then nore do I care to sit and try to hunt em down. My car as it sits has the stock turbo mounted on it. along with bigger injectors 87 coil pack along with 87 comp and turbo tweak chip burned and electric fan... now for the parts I have in the house pipes are bent up to the right sizes and the intercooler is off a 87 Gn. now my question is as follows do I turn my stock turbo around and use the one on the car or do I get a 87 turbo. and were do I mount the inter cooler to. some pics would be nice or a step by step to get this done. I have read on hear that its like a 2 hour job... but that's the problem I just read. theres no step by step or any pics to show you wat to do. again not interested in a alky kit and not looking to do the swap to a complete 87 or even switch my motor around with 87 motor parts. just want to work with what I got at the moment. thank you for your time...

well thats the thing if there was a step by step or maybe even some pics to help guid it would be easy. i found a guy on yuoutube that did it and he dont explain how he did it i msged him today and no replys i mean come on theres ppl out there with limited budgets like me and i just want to do it already..lml... i want my car to run a lil bit better. it runs good now but i hae the pipes and the cooler now so im ready to take the leap.

found this video out there in the past but the guys hard to get in contact with,,,,

Why are you on this forum?

If I had it to do all over again with my old hot air car, i would have left it hot air. With all that piping there is usually a lag issue. Ten years ago when I wanted to go faster they didn't have ported intakes, alky, and we were very limited on turbo choice. Now there are lots of options. The lack of an IC is not what is holding you back, it is the stock intake, turbo adapter, and turbo. Depending on your budget, you could also consider those mods. As for ICing the car, I remember it seemed to be a pain in the ass and there were guys either abandoning the project midstream or getting rid of it a little later from the lag.

Totally up to you, it is your car and good luck with whatever you choose. If you do go ahead and do the IC conversion, make sure you do ume t the work and do a build thread. Share the knowledge!!!

Good luck brother!

This is the main issue. I know of 1 current member that did the IC conversion to his car and he did it right, but, he didn't like the way it behaved. He put the best of the best in it including champion heads, 1.65 roller rockers, and a rather large cam. Best he could do was mid 12's, so guess what.....his car is now being converted to the 86-87 IC set up. He spent years finding all the correct conversion parts, the aftermarket HA headers, a custom built not even close to stock turbo, and a whole bunch of other parts, and it just wasn't worth it to him. Do yourself a favor and either figure out how to make a HA set up work or just go ahead and convert it to the 86-87 design.;)

I have had my grand national for years now and been a member since 2007 since I had my car. but im just now starting to play with it and getting my hands into it...

my last TR i had i copied the J&S manufacturing conversion, front mount, bigger cam, forged pistons, ported heads 87 ecm upgrade, stall, bigger injectors and cai with a te62 limit turbo.
i was not that impressed, i sold the car!
i now have another HA car i recently purchased. my advice is if you want a ic'd car sell yours and buy 1 or completely convert yours to 86/87! dont waste your time half assing the IC on the HA set up... just my 2 pennies

I adde an IC to both my HA cars and they both run fine with no turbo lag.
I have not done anything else other that neaders and 3" D/P. I used an
87 intake and a modded upper plenum. the piping is not much longer
than the 87 IC pipes and the cost is less than a alky kit, although I did put
and alky kit (used), I bought off the board on one of my cars. To each his
own and I still think of my HA cars as HA's because they are just hot roded
just like all back yard mechanics used to do, change a few parts and go faster.

thanks for the input guys... again my moneys tight at home. and like I said im probally gonna doit since ifiguer these ricer boys put turbos and ic on there civics. so was like there got to be a way to do it just got to look and tudy... agai not asking for the fastest thing on the planet. I just want a lil more power. and pics of cars with a ic on them I love to see and get ideas...

here are a couple small pics of mine i did with a js style intake.
i will repost larger ones when i find them at home....

Tried to upload a picture of my84 engine, but it failed.
I'll try again.

@ to 6 go... i love your st up. man. wow... so i need to start with a 87 intake. the mod it and use the same turbo. and get the plumbing the same you set up is what i want...

who did the mod on your 87 intake. boost was that's hot. i love the set up guys... boost if you did that mod your self what do you charge

well we chucked the intake in a mill and milled the top off, then milled the separator out of the inside of the intake low enough to support the floor we welded in.
then we milled the rear of the intake where the turbo fed into it and welded a plate over that hole. the intake was ported and smoothed into the new floor. also port matched to the felpro 1201 intake gasket that is considerably larger in runner size, heads were matched as well. then we milled a flange that the 86/87 upper could be bolted to and welded it to the top of the intake. after that we took to the upper plenum and cut the back until we reached the proper angle to fit under the TE63 turbo and shaped a piece of aluminum and welded it into place. then i decided to use the stock t stat housing and leave it un modified so i had to mille 2 pieces of 2" thick aluminum bar stock to make a remote IAC mount and TB block off plate with nipples to hook hoses up for the IAC feed lines. i decided to remove the mounts for the fuel rails and relocate them to the top of the fuel rail so we could get a better weld on the mounting flange and it would then bolt on top of the upper mounting flange. if i would have left the factory mounting pillars on the intake they would have hindered the welding process so it was easier to mill the mounts cast into the intake and make new ones onto the fuel rail.

well looks like ill be looking for a 87 intake or if i can find one on here used and ready to rock all ready modded for the hot air car ill jump on it. and then start to do it from there. i already contacted the local metal shop. and they said they would and could cut and mod the intake for nearly nothing. so now the quest begins. i hope this thread stays active.. cuz im going to be doing this all the way now.
