I might be able to get a tranny from an 86 monte, and I was wondering if this tranny is going to be the exact same thing as the tranny in the 86 and 87 gns. I wasnt sure if the valve bodys are different, or if there is something else different. I do know that it is non lockup. Is it hard to convert it to lockup? Im guessing the lockup is mainly just OD, correct? Please let me know asap.

Thanks
Mitchell

If it's from a SS Monte it's not exactly the same but is close. I think the shift points are a little higher. What are the code letters on the trans? Non-lockup means the converter does not lock. To convert to lockup you will need a lockup converter and the pump will have to be converted back to lockup which usually entails putting the lockup valve and solenoid back in the pump.

If I can get it for 50 bucks, is it worth it to do that?

Oh yeah. And this is another question besides the tranny one. Please answer the tranny one first, but do you guys think 2500 is a good deal for a 68 chevelle ss project car with no tranny or engine, and has minor rust?

Its worth it even if its shot at that price. Id throw a GN servo and a shift kit in minimum though. Whats the definition of minor rust?

It is coming with the tv cable, dipstick/tube, 2500 non lockup stall, and he said it already has a shift kit in it. Supposedly it shifts fine. Should I get it, and just leave it non lock up?

OH yeah, and you didnt answer my second question about the chevelle ss. And do you guys like the 70 chevelle or the 68 chevelle better?

Id get a new seperater plate and put in a new shift kit form CK and get a used GN servo or one of his big ones. If your application is nearly stock id use a lock up converter. You didnt answer my question concerning minor rust.

Sorry, I guess in some spots its not minor rust. The rear quarters need to be replaced, and then pretty much the rest of the car except for the front fenders have surface rust.
