i would like to intercool my car but, i don't like the way the kits are plumed. also trying to get it done on a budget. what are a good intercooler to go with for as little as possible? i have been hearing about the ford powerstroke intercooler any good? how well does it fit as a front mount? and how much are they?or even any other options would be great. thanks in advance.

Hey Mr buick.........

did you have any issues with your Spearco kit?
i just had a few questions if u wouldnt mind to answer
:D

Do you have any lag issues with the adding of the spearco kit?
also
what size injectors are you running with the kit? i currently have 36#

i want to buy this kit next week, and i just wanna make sure i know everything i need to know

thanx alot

~brian

The ford i/c is alot of work to get it in and pipe it in. The i/c is cheaper but the custom piping will cost you. You have to hack the sh*t out of the radiator supports for the inlets and outlets.
I think the new intakes coming out will allow you run a front mounted t/b. I have a turbomotion intake and went that route. Take a look at my pics in the sig.

No I have no problem with turbo lag, in fact the manual boost valve makes the turbo spool faster than it did stock. The hooker exhaust also helped the spool up factor alot.
36 lb injectors are just about right, 42 lb would be a little better. set the fuel pressure to 42 and the TPS .40 idle, at least 4.52 WOT

that sounds good !!!!
i have the 36ers and i couldnt get an answer.
I didnt wanna have to take everything off to install the kit, then to find out i need new injectors.

no cooling issues with the front mount ?
i know it blocks a bit of the radiator

soo the kit does come with all hardware to mount the front mount correct?

i dont really want to have to be macGyver and try to make this thing mount up, lol

do ya have any estimates on how much HP you picked up with the Kit???

thanx for the input
its always appreciated
:D

I put the spearco on mine. It really wasn't too hard to put on. You do have to grind down an area on the intake to allow for the turbo when you reclock it. My turbo sets a little higher now. It did put a gasket where my uppipe connects to the crossover, but it was leaking anyhow and it seemed to help.
I'm also going to be selling my spearco kit since I need the money to finish the motor on my 87. So I'll probably take the 84 back to stock and sell it.

Yes, you will see cooling issues if you are still using a stock radiator and no electric fans. I went to a 4 core radiator and duel electric fans. Now it runs 175 with AC on in 95 degree weather.
Yes the kit has everything to mount the intercooler and tubes.
Make sure you read all the directions before starting the project and you should be fine. Take the high beam headlight out before pushing the tube behind the headlights. Take your time enlarging the hole next to the radiator, behind the headlights and do a nice job. If you look at the pictures close you will see I welded the bracket supporting the wastegate, you don't need to, but it will make it stronger. I figure it added about 100 hp. and should drop your ET by a full second. So if you were 13.9 you should drop to 12.9 Good luck, keep in touch, you will like it alot.

did you also have to grind the intake or turbo to get everything to sit properly on top of the engine?

As with almost any FMIC you will have cooling issues. The exception being the Powerstroke intercooler. It cools as if the IC isn't there. I went from the Spearco to the Ford unit and never looked back. It takes quite a bit of time to install correctly and it's a DIY job. So if you want something that more or less just bolts on, go with the Spearco. You won't have lag problems but if you have drivability problems I suggest relocating the TB. It makes all the difference.

hey mr.buick what upgrades or mods did u have before adding ur spearco kit? and what did u add after gettin it on ?id lie to know everything u had before putting it on so i can have an idea of what i should be geeting now ? my car is stcok right now:confused:

Started life as a stock 1984 Buick with 98K miles, 3 low compression cylinders and a shot turbo. I added Walbo fuel pump, hot wire kit, adjustable fuel regulator, hooker exhaust, high flow catalytic converter, casper ultra chip, rebuilt stock turbo, rebuilt engine, new cam, lifters, valve springs, pistons, 87 ecu, 87 maf, 87 ign mod, 87 coil pack, casper engine wiring harness, 4 core radiator, ramcharger duel electric fans, spearco intercooler, 36 lb injectors, smc alcohol injection, knock, boost, rpm tach gauges on the window piller, EGT meter, oil pressure, engine temperature gauges by shifter, new tires, new shocks, turbo link boost wiring kit and laptop computer to record data, new crank sensor, cam sensor, tps sensor, new high amp alternator, converted AC to 134A, new carpet, new upholstery, I am sure I forgot something, but thats all I can think of right now.

what would ya consider to be "driveability problems" ?

I've heard people say this before about adding a spearco due to the extra piping..

but i dont understand exactly what that is

is it something you can tune out?

The only drivabilty issues I had was when I first installed the Spearco the idle was surging. I made TPS adjustments and IAC adjustments according to "Turboregal.org" and now it runs great.

well damn very nice lol thanks for letting me know i guess ill i have is just a rebuilt engine and turbo so i guess ill get on those other mods the only thing that pisses me off lol is that no more 3 inch dps i mean what kinda **** is that must suck for any new guy buyin a turbo regal and wants to upgrade and cant but i guess wit time something will come up tanx again
