Medical grade N20 = $2.22-$3.00 per pound

Automotive grade N20 = $4.5 and up per pound

Point of my banter...I noticed "if" I actually ran NOS I could get a 20# (why not) filled for about $50 through a local gas supplier. The best price I could find for local auto-grade NOS was no less than $100 for the same poundage.

Now, auto-grade had the advantage of "fill while you wait", but that was it. It's amazing that something FINALLY costs less in our field despite having "medical" attached as an adjective! Plus, I always like finding ways to save money.

P.S. They leave the SO2 out of the medical grade for obvious reasons, but there is no performance + or - between the two..

N2o

I manage a welding supply shop and I can tell you that is really really cheap for medical grade N2O.Plus you need a license or permit to have it in your possession. It is a controlled substance.I on the other hand own 10 56LB nitrous plus cylinders with an industrial electric pump and fill 20LB bottles for 60 bucks while you wait in my garage.I have guys from all over CT and eastern New york coming down for fills.Business has been damn good.I have been known to fill cylinders up to 1 am for friends who need the juice for a late night race.My plate on my 1986 GN reads GOT JCE I thought that was cool.

Forgot to mention that....but yeah, you'll need at least a DEA license. State health care provider # was needed too, but not sure if that is required everywhere...but they wanted it here in Michigan. If it saves me enough cash though, I'll use mine without worrying too much.

Otherwise, your prices are sweet and I wish you lived closer :D

An interesting thing that has been happening in San Diego. The distributors (refillers) of NOS are dwindling. I don't know if it's because there are too many distributors or other stories I've heard.

One story I have heard from 2 distributors in Santee alone was that with the profit margin so tight and the inconsistent services supplying them with product, it just wasn't worth it to continue refilling NOS. What I mean by inconsistent services is, from what I understand, there is only a few suppliers, if not just one supplier of the gas here in the San Diego area. When a refiller would get a load of NOS, they pay by the pound. The invoice would call out a certain weight, but when the bottle was checked, it would be less. Sometimes by a great amount. When the refiller complained, he would be told that the difference probably leaked out or they weighed the bottle incorrectly. Take the bottle or leave it. How's that for service. With the tight margins, because of other refilling competition, some were actually losing money supplying NOS to the general public.

Only one place locally now refills.

Done as a loss leader.

Nitrox is the main supplier of N20 for refill stations. I've never heard of anyone being told, "Take it or leave it" from them. Most of the time, the guy with the truck weighs the bottles when he unloads them and makes someone sign the weight ticket.

Nitrous is $3lb here for auto use, and I can't find anyone that will fill my bottle with medical grade. I guess I need to befriend a dentist or something, lol.

Just passing along what I heard from a disgruntled customer.
