Interior chime headaches

So here's one for you electrical techs

First off, key in ignition chime sounds when doors are open , interior lights come on when doors are opened, chime sounds when park lights or head lights are left on.
When car is running and I turn the lights on then turn up the dimmer switch for dash lights the chime instantly sounds when I dim the dash lights to off the chime stops
The car does not have the twilight sensor.
This happens with headlights and/or park lights and as long as the instrument cluster lights are off ( dimmer switch turned right down) no chime but as soon as I turn up the dimmer switch the chime sounds ?
Any ideas... For the newbie...

Yank that annoying thing. I like to be able to hear my fuel pump prime when I hit the key.

try a different dimmer?
Ive had to replace mine.I think they wear out after time.
