There was a block on the door pushing a pin in, is that the cause of the problem? I guess the door didn't shut all the way and the previous owner had to do that. I put the piece of wood back but it didn't do anything.
 
If it's not the headlight switch keeping them on, it's probably the pin switches. Get new ones.
When you get the new ones they will seem long - don't worry, they are "auto" adjusting. Just screw them in and close the door and it will adjust to the proper length.

Sounds like the previous owner did something weird to them to throw the length off.
 
I was thinking that was the problem...the one side was shorter than the other. For now I just disconnected the lights and put electrical tape around the ends...
