How would the car act if my wastgate on my down pipe was frozen were its not fully closed? What im getting at is lets say its frozen but not closed were its flush against the turbo, It still build boost but in first gear its kinda lazy? It build boost in first just dosent hit hard till the motor is spinning some rpm like top of first or hits second. I can powerbrake it to build boost which it does but when i let of the gas its not strong. Would a internal boost leak act like this. Sorry with the stupid ? just woundering if i found my problem because i thought it was to fat in first and thats y it was a pig. Or maybe the combo of both.
Thanks Donny

Absolutely.
If the swing valve puck is stuck open, no matter how much or how little, it will cause spool up to be lazy. Sealing the puck to the turbine housing wastegate hole is very crucial for proper spool up. I've seen as much as a 1/8" off, as far as puck not covering the hole completely, cause severe lag. I still have that t-hsg that was drilled wrong by the previous owner. Big headache.
Gotta free up that swing valve so it doesn't stick. I can remember on some of the older ATR internal style downpipes that had sticking swing valve issues. Some of those downpipes required complete tear down and rebuilds to replace the swing valve guide.

And my stainless ATR is one of them! I had it repaired years ago though and has been fine since. I also have an offset wastegate hole. :o

This is going to be my second time getting it fixed do you think i should buy the stainless steel internal wastegate kit from RJC and try it one more time or just scrap the whole internal gate and go external? Im just tired of having problems with it.

What would it cost you to fix yours again vs. buying a new external setup?
