I would like to get a Ipod touch. I have seen many used iphones for sale. Can I use an Iphone on my tmobile...put my tmobile sim card into and Iphone? I don't care about or want to get a data plan from tmobile just want to be able to use a wirless hot spot to browse once in a while.

You can use Tmobile with an iphone but you have to unlock it/jailbreak it. It's not very difficult. There are a couple of downfalls to it as well. Mainly the 3G will not work on the iphone with the t mobile network. You'll have edge which is not as fast when it comes to data transfer.

I've been using tmobile with the iPhone for several years and it works great
The data plan is much cheaper than what AT&T is asking and also works great, not as fast but sure is helpful when not in range of a hotspot
If your thinking of the iPhone 4 just remember you have to trim your sim to fit

I have t-mobile and am using the MYtouch 3g with Android and 3g works just fine i wonder why Red says it won't work for the iphone

I think the 3G has something to do with the frequencies differences between AT&T and Tmobile.
YUP... T's 3G uses 1700/2100mhz bands, while AT&T's is 850/1900mhz.
SO.. No 3G for the Iphone on Tmobile.
Basically I'm looking for and Ipod touch with phone capability. Can't afford and extra $30 a month. Just want the option of using it when I'm home or at a hotspot. Will it work with out getting a data plan? I'm stuck with Tmobile cause my wife keeps breaking her phone and getting a new one, signing a new contract. I don't want to carry a ipod touch and my phone. I figure a jail/unlockd older iphone would be the better choice.....I think.
In short... YES, it'll work just fine.
Buy it, jail break it, put your sim in it(cut it down if Iphone 4)... easy as 1,2,3.
It'll work fine without a data plan... or you can use it for data if you get a plan with Tmobile, and have them program their internet protocols in it.
It's only the 3g signal that won't work, it'll still work fine on EDGE or GPRS for internet, just slower speeds.
WIFI doesn't matter with the carrier.
Thanks for the clear answer. I have seen some phones for sale that are unlocked/jailbroken. I have seen ads for people doing this service for a charge. Have also seen ads saying not to use these people......that you can easily do it yourself.
