Placed an order for a Precision 6162 and have been waiting for delivery and then receive a phone message that they are considered "old" tech and having a hard time getting the one I wanted. I thought these were the latest and greatest? Not in a rush but wanted to get a BB one for this year to upgrade from my TA49.

I think the 6152 might be considered "old" Not sure on the 6162.

I thought the 6157 was the newest version. Not 100% sure though.

I sure hope not......I have less than 1000 miles on mine and it was not cheap mind you!!!!!

That's what I thought when I ordered it but being told otherwise. Waiting to hear back from the place I ordered from.

...

The GT6131 and GT6152 were unavailable and back ordered when I placed my order 3 weeks ago. I was offered the 6262... and I jumped on it.:p

Do the billet 6262 like previously mentioned. Supposed to spool quicker and make more power than the 6152 from what I hear. I used to run a 6152 on my car several years ago and that turbo rocked on the street and track.

Where to buy? Don't see them listed anywhere??? Would that be too radical a turbo for a stock unopened motor? Got 60lb injectors, alky, cold air kit, LS1 MAF, big front mount, 3" downpipe, 2800 stall converter.

I am putting a 62/65 S Cover, .63 BB on my junk.
Same as yours with more stall and less intercooler.
It is not installed yet and I know I suck.

Hartline or PTE. The billet 6262 would be a great street turbo for your combo. Maybe Otto will chime in - he put one on not long ago.

Otto ftw, they can source their own wheels faster than the garrett I am guessing.

Thats what ive suspected as well as several others. Most likely why they hype the billet wheel turbos. How much can another compressor wheel help when the exhaust side is about 95% of the restriction in most cars trapping over 130mph? My opinion is not very much. Chit, i went over 124mph (about 9 years ago) with a PT54 and another member went 132+mph with one. Old as dirt tech but still out mph'ing many board members on here that have much larger "newer tech" turbos. My thinking is that Garrett is starving them for comp wheels so they are forced to develop their own. Just a hunch not totally certain.

My brother used to work at Precision and still has friends that work there. I think the advice I'm given on turbos from them is pretty accurate:

I had bought a 6162 last winter in preparation for a spring installation. Before we installed the turbo I had a rod bearing start making noise which launched my stoker build. So here I was with a new 6162 when the 6262 was introduced.

My bother (and others) informed me that the new turbo was worth making the upgrade from the 6162. By reading the specs I could see that the 6262 had a higher max horsepower. I new I wouldn't be maxing that turbo out right away so I was concerned about spool up. I was told that the 6262 spools up quicker than the 6162 providing more boost quicker.

I sold my 6162 and got the 6262 for a minimal cost. I still don't have it mounted in the car so I can't provide much feedback but I understand that 6262 to be a great advance for street turbo's.
