hood pins with a fiber hood ??? How many of you actually use them & why ? Need feedback before popping out a drill on my fiber hood . Thanks.

You're supposed to put them in the front corners so the wind doesn't "catch" the corners and try to lift the hood at higher speeds. While I have no experience with 'glass hoods on a TR I've seen it happen on my friends 85 Mustang.:)

I have a glass hood on my wife 87 monte ss and I put them on after the first ride down the road in it. You could see the corners fluttering up front and it made me nervous. Daniel Ray

This is exactly what I was told but I've seen some guys that are not using them. Are they risking it or do they have some other way of holding them down ??

risking it probley lol. If I had it to do over again I would have put the twist locks on it like race cars have instead of hood pins. You can paint them black and noone would notice them near as much as the pins as they are flush when locked and pop up when you unlock them. The hood pins are a dead giveaway that you are not stock. Or your a ricer hahahahahahaha. Daniel Ray:biggrin:

Hood Pins option

Have a fiberglass hood (front fender is glass as well)that all latch/hinge hardware was transferred over they used the lighter shocks but it works as a reg.hood the gentleman bracket raced this car since he bought it in Feb88. Never seen the hood waiver or flutter in the wind, don't know whose hood it is. Know it as well as the front fender came from Conley in early 90's don't exactly know when the FGH went on but he never used hood pins and the hood never come up on him and it's never come up on me , it's reinforced pretty good where it needs to be the leading edge front is not flimsy fairly rigid. If you don't mind drilling into your hood the extra safety factor that hood pins provide will keep you from worrying. But......accidents happen

Did you ever see the PINKS episode these guys were checking each others motors out and what N02 systems they had This guy had a 70-72 W30 442clone with the same expensive FiberGlass hood. This guys W30 Clone is trick he forgets to pin her down after allowing opponets to see his motor. Well they finally make a run and about 1/2-3/4 track the hood comes up and smacks the windshield ,dents the roof. The unpinned hood caused a couple thousand in damage. The original W30 hood is well over 1000 bucks itself. The guy had to shut her down as he couldn't see, he was SICK as this 442 was cherry, just shakin his head in disbelief His childhood dream car with beautiful Gold paint with the correct white stripes, W30 fiberglasshood with the correct oem/original hood pins. Those Hood Pins are great but you have to make sure the pins are in.

Unles you have a flimsy hood and it's tying to go airborn I'd use the pins otherwise NO!

It would also depend if the hood is reenforced also. I have a Glastek and have been 133 in the 1/4 with no fluttering.... yet.

I think they're out of Illinois. The hood and bumpers were a good fit, but the truck was crappy. Try and do a search "Glasstek"

Anybody knows what most of the TSO & TSM cars are using ??? I've seen that most of them aren't using hood pins

FiberGlass Hoods

Didn't know you were looking for hoods, thought the question was to hoodpin or not to hoodpin. rodnrace.com has both the pin on with rienforcement around the outer edges and a hood with latch and hinge plates and central /outer reinforcement. They have doors ,frontclips, trunk lids etc.etc.

ChavoLC2, it is about to pin or not. The other thing is that I"ve been waiting so long (almost 5 months) for a fiberhood from any Buick vendor & now  I see some guys that are running fiberhoods that don't necessarily come form a Buick vendor. This might also help me end my quest 4 a fiber hood. I'm not fond of how the hood pins look :( that's why I asked if it was necessary to pin or not. That's why I also was wondering what TSO & TSM guys where using, because I haven't seen many with pins on them. I was wondering what hood they had that didn't need the pins  .

1BaddTT I wouldn't drill holes and use the pins. Haven't had any problems with the fiberglass hood that came on my ride. It came from Conley give his shop a call they may have one in stock. There was a post not to long ago and one of the TSO&TSM guys said they can get away with a fgh. Think I posted the rodnrace site saying they had a fgfront clip, one of them said that wouldn't fly cause of I think he said wt. limits. Anyhow rodnrace has nice stuff from 32 fords to Kaiser HenryJ's and Regal stuff inbetween, if the vendor can't provide you a hood there are other options ie vendors that have hoods available. good Luck finding a hood;)

Guys I just checked with Glasstek & Conley's w/o luck on a fiberhood :(. This post has given me more options other than Buick vendors (which none have 1 @ the time) please keep them coming. Thanks !

Glastek hood

Call this company Tamaraz auto parts whse. CST 630-904-4500 or 1 800-442-4601... They have em in stock for 343.95 and they are Glastek units they bolt on. Be sure and buy the appropriate gas hinges for the hood as the stockers are to stiff/hard. Hope this helps. Kirban's has the gas hinges for 58 a pair on e-bay

Well, I tried calling Tamraz all day, nobody picked up the phone, left a message & they didn't return the call either. Same goes with Kirbans :( . I'll try tomorrow. I'm about to give up on the idea of having a fiber hood...it's been too f@%!$8% long  sorry had to vent :(

I give up !!!

That's it !!! I'm giving up on the idea of having a fiberglass hood 4 my car. Today I called Tamraz, VFN w/o luck...again  . I would have to wait 6 more wks !!  No way !! Kirban had 1 in stock but, I can barely recall reading a guy's complaint about it & after all this I don't want to buy something that I will end up disliking  . I would like to thank all that responded with a possible place to buy 1 from, specially ChavoLC2 who went the extra mile. Your the man !! I have all the names & #s for next time. Right now I need to get my car up & running !! Once running I'll have time to spare. Been on this since March !! At least I won't have to use hood pins !! :D Once again thanks !!

See why I need to get it running !!
