The trans in my 87 gn (40,600 miles) has a number of issues. I would imagine with my luck that it is shot. The problems are as follows: Shifts waaaay to hard under part throttle, holds gears way to long under part throttle, and it seems to lock and unlock the converter (if thats possible?) while cruising aprox 40-45 in 3rd. Just wondered if anyone could confirm my darkest fears. Is it terminal? Thanks for any advice...
 
Oil Change

When was the last time you changed your trannie oil and filter?

If recently, what are your pressures?

Have you tried adjusting the TV cable?

TV related somehow, and I would not condem it at this point by all means.
Explain in detail a little more. Sounds more like Clay said, too much TV for one reason or another. Another possible scenario would be gov spring either shot out or cocked in there. Be Honest here......... Have you A) Made any 110mph or so blasts lately?
B) gone around a corner and just hammered it and it upshifted more than two gears while burning out?
C) power braked it so it upshifted at least twice during burn out?
D) lit them hard in the rain?

Anyone of those four points to a meanial spring in the govenor and with 2 or three hrs of time , easily fixed for not much money other that normal service. :)

I have not done a tranny service in a long time (cant remember when). I have not been beating on it at all if you can believe that. The most I have done is to pithch sideways in low as boost comes on. So I guess I have beat it a little, but I have never even powerbraked this car. I also have no idea what my pressures are. The symptoms in a little more detail are:from a dead stop at low or part throttle it holds 1st and 2nd to long. Under normal driving conditions with traffic and stop lights/signs it shifts extreamly hard. Whwn cruisng at about 40-45 in 3rd it seems to be locking and unlocking the converter causing the engine to fluctuate aprox 300 rpm back and fourth. it fluctuates irradically every 10-15 seconds. I was receantly burned bad and dont know who to trust in my area. thanks for the advice.
