Just wondering as I see people referring to there car as a Turbo T or T Type. Mines an 87 with the T package. Did they use T Type up to 86 and just shorten it to just T in 87? Or is there a Turbo T and T Type? Included picture of factory window sticker.

They were called TTypes before 87.If you have an 87 it is a Turbo T.

What I've always wondered is, what do call the '87 with a V8 and the T Type package? A Regal T just sounds weird....

I'm not sure where I got this idea but I thought only the WE4 was called the turbo T?

edited: the book I read this is called: Guide to Buicks I think sold by Kirban,

Anyhow, it says the T-type was no longer an option in 1987. The Turbo T was giving as a WE4 code. Simular to the GN's getting a WE2 code. I guess it continues down to cars like my WO2 car etc? Just trying to understand this stuff. The T just meant touring...I think It's susspension.

On the window sticker it has the T package listed like this.

Y56 "T" Package - Includes 15" Aluminum Wheels (4?? P215/65R15 B/W Eagle GT Tires; Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel; Gran Touring Suspension; And Fast Ratio Power Steering

The 2 question marks after 4 are numbers or letters I can't read as the sheet is smudged in that area.

My 87 T does not have the blackout package, all trim and bumpers are chrome. Maybe instead of being a Turbo T or T-Type its just a T with the turbo engine.

If you have chrome bumpers than you have a turbo Regal. Only the WE4 model is called the Turbo-T. The W02 is the blackout trim option. If you have a Regal with the WO2 and it is not an WE4 than it is still a turbo Regal.

When a person checked off the LC2 option on a Regal than the Y56 came along for the ride as it was a mandatory option.

Special Option Packages:

LC2 = Turbo Package
WE2 = Regal Grand National
WE4 = Turbo T
WO2 = Exterior Sport Package
Y56 = 'T' Package

TR Enthusiast Community Convention:

1986 = T Type
1987 = Turbo T

The term Turbo T was originally used by Buick in reference to WE4, but has since been adopted by the TR enthusiast community to include ***ALL*** 1987 non-GN/GNX TRs. It is a term of convenience - no one can be reasonably expected to describe their car as, for example, as a Base Regal with a Turbo Package and a 'T' Package.

Thus, my friend, your car is most assuredly a Turbo T.

Wouldn't it be more convenient if everybody just called them GrandNationals like every other idiot out there that cant tell a Monte Carlo from a Regal. Why not just Turbo Regal hence the TR moniker?
If I had to set the standard I'd say all you non GN guys are Turbo Regals. Just make sure you use the correct terminolgy when 1. you are around other TR entusiasts or 2. your car is featured in a magazine or 3. you are in the presence of a smart a$$ like me.:biggrin:

I wouldn't argue with Herb. I think it's important to know that in Buick-speak, Turbo T is WE4, in TR Enthusiast-speak, it has been bastardized into any 1987, Non-GN/GNX TR.

Whether you choose to call your TR, for example, a Base Regal with the Turbo Package or a Turbo T or a Turbo Regal is your business. Your audience may not understand, but you can't save the world...

After all that? I don't know whether to be exaperated or amused? Well, at least you didn't tell them it was an Aerocoupe...

No, I told them just after I bought it back in November of last year. I ask this after seeing others on the forums calling them by the different names. I thank everyone for there replys.

Thanks,
Eric
