I know it probably protects it from heat, but I have my headers & downpipe jet-hotted and think its nothing more than an eyesore and sharp edges for cutting my fingers when working in there. Is it needed? If it matters I AM still using the AC.

got rid of mine on both cars, not one problem at all so far... doesn't seem to affect the a/c either...& you can get to the #6 plug a little easier too...unbolt it & store it somewhere & don't look back!!

I have mine neatly tucked away in the attic. No ill effects.

Sure got rid of that false knock from the DP hitting all the time.:)

down pipe melted a hole in my box.... i was wondering why the a/c wasent good last year????? now i got to find something to put as a heat shield, and epoxy the hole shut...

AND......cut and re-route/weld the down pipe better.;) To repair the heater box, you can use a piece of aluminum or steel and JB wled it to the box. No need to use fiberglass. I would also suggest (at a minimum) that you thermal wrap the section of the down pipe that comes close to the heater box, if you do not re-fit the down pipe. If you loosen the down pipe at the turbo and remove the hangar at the converter location, then the pipe should be able to drop down away from the box. Try loosening the driver side header, and pull UP on the turbo to rock the down pipe away from the heater box. This usually nets you 3/4" or so.
