Is there a GN or TB buyers guide on here anywhere?

Like a list put together from all you guys on what to look for, what to do to the car when looking at one before buying it?

I ask, becasue I saw a 87 GN T-top sitting in a building in town, and called the place to find out more about it. And I asked the guy if he would consider saling the car, he took a second or two to think about it, and said yeah, $5500. I was kinda shocked he said such a low number, and scared at the same time.

He said the pass side floor board needs to be replaced, and he was going to have that done here in a few weeks. Its got 58k on teh car, he said it runs good, and all that.

I'm having a old friend look at the car, hopefully tonight. But he said he doesnt know alot about them. I just figure someone else's eyes along with mine might find something. He was a GM tech, but that was at least 10 years ago.

I was wondering if any of you could help me out, as what to look for when I test drive this thing, hopefully tonight. As to, building boost on a launch, tranny slipping. ect. I have a old

I'd feel alot better though, if I could find someone in town here that knows a thing or two about them to look it over though. Considering this will be my first one.

Well the rust with low milage is bad for any car. It means that the car wasn't stored right and the whole underside is rusted. I seen this on a 55k mile '85 GN owned by a 50 year old lady. She didn't drive much and the car was stored in the garage. The garage floor would sweat bad and caused the whole under side of the car to rust away. It looked like brand new everywhere else. The husband wanted $10k for it.

T-tops are not a very desirable option as they leak and rattle. Some people just have to have them. For the most part, it's the first time GN buyer that will get a T-top car, most seasoned GN people will pass on them. Just consider the resale might be less on a t-top car.

As a side note, these cars are so cheap now ($5,500), that as long as it's 100% orig and it runs, it shouldn't be a bad deal. It will only go up in value. It's not like your buying a $17K show car. If that were the case, you would want to pick it apart.

The best way for people to help you is to get some pic's of it and post it.

Yeah, I have to call the guy and find out if he will be ok with me taking it somewhere. I assume he would, if he doesnt he's hiding something for sure.

I know what you mean about a hard top. Thats what I truly want. My friend had 2 GN's, both tt cars, he sealed them with sealer one day he got so pissed of them leaking and making noise.

If your not hard core T-top I would pass.

Try and put it up on a lift to see how bad the floor is.

Yeah, I went and took a peek at it at lunch. The floor board is GONE on the drivers side. (he told me pass. and it wasnt that bad, just needed replacing..)

He said it runs good, but if you hold someone by how he told me the floor board was, it probably run's a little bad. I dont think it was a 87 either, it didnt have the "intercooled" under the GN on the sides.

I wouldnt give him more then $4k for it. If any of you guys in Orlando wanna good parts car, Let me know and I'll give you his number.

Yeah, I can't see giving more than that with a floorboard rust problem of that magnitude. The other thing is that unless you have the car disassembled and blasted clean you'll never get rid of that rust.
